Willow Hill Farm Girl

About the Farm Girl. Faces of the Farm. Super Fast Chicken Barley Soup. Our family's favorite quick dinner on a cold winter night. It's been bitter cold all over the nation and even NC is feeling the fingers of Old Man Winter. I'm not complaining, because I thrive on this kind of weather; however, the past couple of days have brought scratchy throats and stuffy noses to the farm. Willow Hill Farm Girl: September 2014

http://www.willowhillfarmgirl.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

About the Farm Girl. Faces of the Farm. When Life Gets Crazy. Savor It. Over the last week we've had over 300 guests at the farm. It really seems insane, but we love it. I LOVE having people here. We hosted our student ministry family kick-off. Have I mentioned how much fun those teens are? Families building a sense of community in a large church is so important. Human foosball was a big hit. Ultimate frisbee and flag football for the big kids. Volleyball, bouncy houses, and food for everyone. Aside from...

Willow Hill Farm Girl: Farmhouse Christmas Tour

http://www.willowhillfarmgirl.blogspot.com/2014/12/farmhouse-christmas-tour.html

About the Farm Girl. Faces of the Farm. Welcome to Willow Hill Farm. I chose to do a "Classic Christmas" theme this year. Tradition with a spin. Welcome to the reading room. This is the quiet room, as you can see from the sleeping dog. He thinks he owns this room and lets us join him every once in awhile. Our advent trees add just enough sparkle and remind us of the true meaning of Christmas. My dad made this little wooden sled years ago. Wrapping paper from Target and Hobby Lobby. Decorating on a budget.

Willow Hill Farm Girl: May 2014

http://www.willowhillfarmgirl.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

About the Farm Girl. Faces of the Farm. The grass beckons to be cut, the birds awaken us at dawn and the warm weather calls to my kids. They took their first dip in the pond over the weekend. Friends always make it more fun. Do you eat later in the summer than in the winter? I love summer meals, gathered around the table as dusk settles. Freshly showered kids in pajamas, grill marks on the food, and fresh fruit at 8pm. Yes, it must be summer! This is the easiest crowd-pleasing summer dessert:. We have en...

Willow Hill Farm Girl: Farmhouse Fall

http://www.willowhillfarmgirl.blogspot.com/2014/10/farmhouse-fall.html

About the Farm Girl. Faces of the Farm. Welcome to Willow Hill Farm! Fall is my favorite time of year around here. These cheese boxes were found in our family's old barn. I love how the sun filters onto the kitchen table. We made this scripture pumpkin last year. Dollar store Bible, Mod-podge, and a foam pumpkin. So easy! Grandfather's tool box is the perfect place to showcase some funky gourds. We have a dear farmer friend who blessed us with an abundance of fall delights. So thankful!

Smellin' Coffee: August 2014

http://norma-smellincoffee.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Friday, August 8, 2014. Challenge 18. checkup time. Today was my annual internal medicine checkup with the doctor I've seen for the last 20 years. So I showed up in his office early today *shock* and sat down to read my book. A few minutes later I heard a familiar voice say, "Where did Norma go? She's sitting there," the receptionist said. I don't see her. *in a louder voice* NORMA? The doctor said as he scanned the waiting room from left to right. Gasp* "You look completely different? What did you do?

Smellin' Coffee: Challenge 14... hello, woodland creatures...

http://norma-smellincoffee.blogspot.com/2014/08/challenge-14-hello-woodland-creatures.html

Friday, August 1, 2014. Challenge 14. hello, woodland creatures. The men and women of our house have distinctly different views on the wildlife that wanders through the yard. I see it as pretty and cute and furry. Jimmy suggests we put a tree stand in one of the trees. At least we know we represent well the gender stereotypes. There's also a picture of a doe peeking through the pool fence. The wooded area behind her is where they have their. nest? The deer population must be getting out of control. V...

Smellin' Coffee: June 2012

http://norma-smellincoffee.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, June 19, 2012. At first I though we'd been squeezed into an over-scheduled, over-extended lifestyle by the demands of life in the 21st century, and it may have started that way. Now I am realizing that we are right there in the midst of frenzy because we have lost the fine art of rest. To sit and watch TV/DVDs/Netflix without doing something else at the same time. I think I need to look into Multitaskers Anonymous. Monday, June 11, 2012. When your pool water is old. Now, if this happens several ...

Smellin' Coffee: Challenge 15... ebola...

http://norma-smellincoffee.blogspot.com/2014/08/challenge-15-ebola.html

Saturday, August 2, 2014. Challenge 15. ebola. One time Kelsey gave Zack cholera for his birthday. Not the disease. the plush microbe. In the basement of the UNC Student Stores, they had a line of common viruses and bacteria, and cholera was soft, fluffy and his favorite shade of blue. We've gotten a lot of mileage out of cholera-related puns. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want to run up and hug someone with Ebola {which, by the way, would be a stupid thing to do}, but I'm equally sure that keeping our own ...

Smellin' Coffee: July 2014

http://norma-smellincoffee.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Saturday, July 26, 2014. Challenge 13. cauliflower pizza crust. Let me just go on the record in saying that I think the whole gluten-free thing is a little overhyped. I have some sweet friends with celiac disease, and I 100% know their reaction to gluten is legit, but gluten, in my humble opinion, isn't causing the decline of Western culture. Jimmy asked me to put it in the regular rotation of meals. New, healthy pizza! Tales from the Classroom. Tuesday, July 15, 2014. I am JUST LIKE MY STUDENTS! So I st...

Smellin' Coffee: April 2012

http://norma-smellincoffee.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Sunday, April 8, 2012. What an incredible night we had a church last night! Zack has been asking to get baptized for several weeks, and we were waiting for the "upcoming baptism weekend" announcement. We thought it might be next weekend, so on our "to do" list was contact the kid's ministry peeps and find out what we needed to do. That's not us, y'all. That's the Holy Spirit working in his life, by the grace of God. I got just the main part of his baptism on video with my cell phone, but it was incredible.

Smellin' Coffee: Challenge 17... iPad deployment...

http://norma-smellincoffee.blogspot.com/2014/08/challenge-17-ipad-deployment.html

Friday, August 8, 2014. Challenge 17. iPad deployment. Our academy is going 1:1 with iPads from fourth grade through twelfth grade this year. We went to the deployment on the first night. At first I thought deployment. Was a bit of a puffed up term, when distribution. Was a perfectly good option. Then we arrived and discovered that we, indeed, were there to deploy these devices. On the plus side:. 2 Clear and concise presentation by Technology Director, including a frank discussion of the downside of tec...

Tuesday, May 22, 2012. Day 9 - Going Raw. What a fun day this has been! Started out with a play-date with Maria. It's good to find a crafty-friend! We are finding we have many hobbies in common.gotta love that. She was sweet enough (and talented enough) to make me a smoothie lunch-to-go. Then I was off to the Jefferson County Travel Clinic for the rest of my immunizations for the missions trip. She also taught her mom how to make one too! What teacher wouldn't love that?
