Vino is our Vice: Save it for a rainy day?
http://vinoisourvice.blogspot.com/2011/06/save-it-for-rainy-day.html
Sunday, June 12, 2011. Save it for a rainy day? I was at dinner recently and as the restaurant was BYO, decided to take a bottle of 2007 Saint Clementin Chateauneuf du Pape that I'd had sitting in my wine rack for the last couple of years gathering dust. When the waitress came over to open the wine, she looked at me and the fella with a cheeky grin and said: "Ooh, what's the special occassion? Now don't get me wrong, she was a lovely waitress who was just very interested in what we were drinking, but it ...

Vino is our Vice: June 2011
http://vinoisourvice.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, June 26, 2011. This week I had the pleasure of tasting some of the best wines from WA at the Taste of Western Australia. Run by the Wine Industry Association of WA at the Sofitel hotel, Sydney. The evening began with a bit of an expo of 17 of WA's best wineries from around the region, followed by a Cabernet master class with host and wine writer, Mike Bennie. Favourites of the evening for me were the 2010 Forest Hill. Estate Chardonnay; 2008 Plantagenet. After the tastings we stepped into a side ...

http://vinoisourvice.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Monday, December 7, 2009. Young Winemaker of the Year. On Friday 20th November, Renee and I both had the privilege of attending The Wine Society's Young Winemaker of the Year awards night at the Westin Hotel, Sydney. Now I know it's a little while since the 20th, so apologies for my tardy post! The awards night was super fun as always, with great entertainment, food and of course wine! Each table got to sample 20 wines, 2 from each finalist. As you can imagine, it was a pretty boozy night! We are self co...

Vino is our Vice: A Little Golden wine list
http://vinoisourvice.blogspot.com/2011/05/little-golden-wine-list.html
Wednesday, May 18, 2011. A Little Golden wine list. Q: What can you do to make a simple wine list look fun and inviting? A: Put it inside a children's book! Last night I checked out the Hunky Dory Social Club. In Darlinghurst. The funkily-designed venue has two levels of bars and an Italian restaurant, Bruno's, on the ground floor. Of our youth (am I showing my age here? Opening it up I found the original kids book with a wine list inside. How fun, a wine list and an entertaining read all at once! We are...

Vino is our Vice: April 2011
http://vinoisourvice.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, April 27, 2011. A trip to the Mid-North Coast this Easter long weekend wouldn't have been complete without a trip to a local winery, so of course I found time to squeeze one in! The winery of choice was a little place called Raleigh Vineyard and Winery. In the Bellinger Valley, 15 minutes south of Coffs Harbour. Its quite a small winery situated on the Bellinger river which is a gorgeous spot to stop and have a cheese platter and a bottle of vino. Thursday, April 21, 2011. A new take on BYO.

Thursday, November 12, 2009. Women of the Wine Industry Event. Last night Helen and I scooted off to Moncur Cellars for a Women of the Wine Industry event held by the Woollahra Hotel. There were three sessions on offer: a master class, open tasting and a wine dinner - we opted for the master class hosted by Toni Patterson MW which featured Emma Wood Seppelt. Nadine Cross Wither Hills. And Fiona Donald Hardys. Also loved the highly decorated 2006 Chateau Reynella Cab Sauv. Labels: Bay of Fires. We are sel...

http://vinoisourvice.blogspot.com/2011/05/more-cheese-please.html
Thursday, May 5, 2011. Me and my lovely work colleagues received a very special treat last week.a cheese and wine tasting class. What a perfect way to end the working day! The very knowledgable Claudia Bowman from McIntosh and Bowman. Gave me and the girls an insight into the wonderful world of cheese with a tasting of 6 cheeses (French and Australian), matched with 3 French wines. From Sutton Grance, VIC and the stinky, gooey Livarot. From Normandy, France. I managed to finish off all of my cheese plate...

Vino is our Vice: A new take on BYO
http://vinoisourvice.blogspot.com/2011/04/new-take-on-byo.html
Thursday, April 21, 2011. A new take on BYO. Last night a good friend and I ventured to House. The new Thai restaurant on Elizabeth Street in Surry Hills. The food was spicy, spicy Northern Thai and absolutely delicious, but one thing that really caught my interest was the BYO situation. Most Thai restuarants in Sydney including Spice I Am. Bye for now and happy Easter! April 22, 2011 at 1:03 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Wine without the wank. We are self confessed wine lovers, not connoisseur...

Vino is our Vice: May 2010
http://vinoisourvice.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Monday, May 3, 2010. Sorry it's been a while since we last posted, but we have been snowed under here and just drinking wine to get through the pressure! Anyway, one thing I have been doing since I last posted is playing with iPhone apps. There are a lot out there now, many of which are free thankfully, ranging from cellar door locators to little wine logs where you can record your favourite tipples and even store a picture of their labels to help you out next time you visit a bottle shop.
