Putting in at Big Rapids County Park. You can put in below, but it is a rocky trail. Nice launch above the dam. Scouting Big Rapids (upstream of put-in). Not too fierce at these water levels. First of many nice boulder gardens. Passing by the park again. Ok portage path river-right. First rock bluff on this segment. Attractive leaf rug for the river. Ok parking on Hwy F bridge. Never had to portage, but did have to cut through some branches. Short trip due to logs…heading back. Saw a couple of these bird houses. Nice vista as you enter Lake Redstone. Back to the Hwy F bridge. About to enter Lake Redstone proper. I thought the ice would have melted by now. Cty U Bridge – Ok Parking. Idea of water levels. Looking upstream toward the State Forest. Nice ditch for putting in. Some weeds…not bad. Not sure if this ditch is always usable. Foot higher might have been rough under the bridge. Finally ending the man-made portion of the river. Stumbled upon an Eagle. Side lake to the river. Mouth at the Wisconsin River. Rapids kind of die here. Shallow now, but Halls is a kayaking route. End of major rock gardens. End of major gravel bars. Hiding in the rocks. Exposed fern roots (hard to see). Blynn Road is a good access point with nicely mowed shoulders. Be careful not to drive over this barbed wire though. Nice trail leading to the water. Good launching bank for ottering in. Looking upstream from the bridge. Occupants long gone to warmer places. Looking back at the Blynn Road bridge. Technically, this is Black Earth Creek.
