With Each new day. Nyctophilia (n) An attraction to darkness or night; finding relaxation or comfort in the darkness. -An autumnal micro adventure exploring the darkness! Autumn has arrived. Trees that only a few weeks ago were leafy and resplendent now stand naked and bare. That joyful indulgence of kicking my way way through the leafy carpet of crunchy golden leaves. At times I find myself spellbound by the rich reds and autumnal hues that surround me. My DSLR created an odd reflection of the moon.

March and April Microadventures  - Railway and Waterway - With Each new day

http://witheachnewday.weebly.com/blog/march-and-april-microadventures-railway-and-waterway

With Each new day. March and April Microadventures - Railway and Waterway. Somewhat late in posting a combination of March and April micro adventures here, but better late than never! The frustrations of semi-rural living and continual car problems throughout March made it more difficult than usual to get out and explore. However, with some improvements in the weather I made the most of exploring the 165 acre site where I live and also made a trip back to my home city of Newcastle Upon Tyne. Before conti...

May bivvy microadventure - a night under the stars - With Each new day

http://witheachnewday.weebly.com/blog/may-bivvy-microadventure-a-night-under-the-stars

With Each new day. May bivvy microadventure - a night under the stars. April and May had been quite difficult months due to the earthquakes in Nepal, a place I consider a bit of a spiritual and second home. Thankfully those I know, although suffering the loss of homes, were all safe. I decided to take the plunge, literally at the eleventh hour. The weather had been pleasant all day with clear skies so it was time to take advantage of a dry evening out in the open. Settling down for the night. As dawn bro...

http://witheachnewday.weebly.com/blog/exploring-places-of-historical-interest-in-1066-country

With Each new day. Exploring places of historical interest in 1066 country. The gauntlet was thrown down and choosing the theme for the June microadventure was mine to make. I opted for the theme to be 'visiting places of historical interest', creating quite a wide range of options and leaving the theme open to interpretation. My first visit was to the beautiful moated. Dating back to 1385. It was built by Sir Edward. My next adventure was to. I've never been into Michelham Priory. well, I went to th...

http://witheachnewday.weebly.com/blog/trees-are-poems-the-earth-writes-upon-the-sky-khalil-gibran

With Each new day. Trees are poems the earth writes upon the sky - Khalil Gibran. Some of us are lucky to be surrounded by them on a daily basis. For others in urban settings their presence may be more sporadic and structured. Whichever of these statements apply, you cannot fail to be amazed by the variety of trees that we see around us - size, colour, seasonal changes, leaf shape, species, native, and non native. Spurred on by the. I made a tree inspired visit to Bedgebury Pinetum. Closer to home I took...

Do the June microadventure round-up tango. That’s what June’s microadventure challenge was all about. Mags. Set the theme and we set about visiting places of historic interest. Places of historic interest. Having chosen the theme, Mags. Went on a tour of historically interesting places in East Sussex. July microadventures - In Which I

http://inwhichi.weebly.com/-write/july-microadventures

Do the July microadventure round-up foxtrot. July’s microadventure challenge was to spend time with trees. Here’s what people got up to! It seems that this challenge induced a small epidemic of tree hugging in our ranks. Managed quite a few tree-y expeditions this month, including a visit to Bedgebury Pinetum. Mags took some lovely photos of trees, both at Bedgebury and around her workplace and home. Find them in her post "Trees are poems the earth writes upon the sky". Is it a fir cone? In Essex. &l...

Take a friend on their first microadventure - In Which I

http://inwhichi.weebly.com/-write/take-a-friend-on-their-first-microadventure

Take a friend on their first microadventure. One of Alastair Humphreys' suggestions for making your year of microadventure. Even more fun is to take a friend on their first microadventure. It wasn't too hard to convince Mags. To meet up for a sleep out. What we needed to do was set a date and stick to it. Mags. The sky was lovely and clear at the start of the night, with a bright moon and stars. We saw a satellite go over and listened to owls calling. We didn't see the owls (sad! This microadventure cost...

Do the May microadventure round-up waltz. May’s microadventure challenge was to go on a lunchtime microadventure. Here’s what people got up to! Scroll down for June’s theme.). Go on a picnic. Abby had a mid-week day off work. So did Dan and I. Brilliant! We met up in Tunbridge Wells to see the folk art exhibition. Where we set up the camp stove and made more than enough tea to quench our hard-earned picnicking thirst. Visit the botanic gardens. Emily found nature in the heart of Melbourne. The wood strad...

Chasing down our dreams with eager feet. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Family) Wells State Park – Sturbridge. July 24, 2015. Summer vacation means more family time, and we used that time at the start of July for a hike at Wells State Park in Sturbridge. I’ve written a few posts in the past about hiking here; it’s a massive property with fairly long trails, and it’s possible to get over 6 miles of hiking in a day fairly easily as I demonstrated in a prior post. We reached the top of ...
