Dealing with moments of stress. You bring with you a passage of music that causes you stress. You will be given all sorts of exercises, some of them seeming illogical. This will focus your attention dramatically. The result is a real and appreciable improvement after completing each exercise. We all know the feeling: certain passages in a piece of music which we never seem to make our own, which we worry about all the time, especially when leading up to a performance or an exam.

In the lessons the focus is on:. Learning to identify the very first signs of tension. Learning to keep a small space in your head free to pick up these signals. What is integrated practice? Integrated Practice is a newly developed method of practicing for musicians and/or music students. Integrated Practice can be distinguished from ‘normal’ practicing through the following:. More results are achieved in the same amount of time by the clever use of mental techniques. One learns to expand personal boundaries without going beyond the bounds. Tiredness and pain and the resultant injuries as a consequence of intensive playing are avoided. Alternating the focus of ac...

1 Never practice when pressed. If you have too little time, pick something small to work on, but hold on to your concentration. 2 Make it a habit to work for a short time but to completely concentrate on a short fragment (for instance 4 bars) instead of spending large amounts of time and playing through a piece over and over. 3 Make yourself aware as soon as possible of exactly what in a piece or etude is not going as you would wish and precisely where it is located. 8 Never start to practice directly af...
