Wormtown Medic: Merry EMS Christmas

http://wormtownmedic.blogspot.com/2011/12/merry-ems-christmas.html

Keeping the heart of the commonwealth beating. Sunday, December 25, 2011. Christmas Day and I don't care. Workin' again, another gray hair. Carrying fat ass in my chair. It's a Merry EMS Christmas. Lots of calls, that's just my luck. Freezing my balls off in this truck. So you're drunk, like I give a F- k. It's a Merry EMS Christmas. Carrying a land whale on my scoop. Psych patient met us on the stoop. L'il old lady just cant't poop. It's a Merry EMS Christmas. Cannot wait to get outta here.

Keeping the heart of the commonwealth beating. Wednesday, May 30, 2012. Benchmarking Public Safety in Worcester: 2012. The news is good for WEMS and Worcester. CENTRAL MASS MEDICS: March 2010

http://centralmassmedics.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Getting It Done, One Patient At A Time. Monday, March 29, 2010. Shake and Bake Disaster. I've made no bones about the fact that I think EMS is in trouble here in Massachusetts. Until now, I've directed my opprobrium squarely at the people running the show here in the Commonwealth. But sometimes we do it to ourselves. An EMS "training" facility (and I use that term loooooooosely) is advertising a 20-day EMT-Basic course. Let that sink in for a bit. Not even a month. Not even 75 percent of a month. I under...

Getting It Done, One Patient At A Time. Monday, July 11, 2011. EMS's Own Silent Epidemic. A simple question from the "Why Do We Do This? Why do 911 ambulances transport stable, uninjured psych patients who have no medical or toxicological complaints? It's never made any sense, and recent injuries to good friends of mine in the field have only highlighted my disdain for the practice. For EMS personnel, psychs represent nothing but risk. In the 17 years I've been in EMS, I've been injured exactly once - by...

CENTRAL MASS MEDICS: February 2012

http://centralmassmedics.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Getting It Done, One Patient At A Time. Wednesday, February 1, 2012. Just in case anyone missed it, I've pasted below an excellent article that appeared in a recent edition of the Worcester Telegram and Gazette, written by reporter Brad Miner. In an era dominated by a healthcare reform debate that couldn't care less about prehospital medicine, it's nice to see someone write thoughtfully - and accurately, in my opinion - about the state of affairs:. Central Mass. EMS Struggles to Make Ends Meet. Patrick K...

Getting It Done, One Patient At A Time. Friday, September 2, 2011. Stop The Presses (Yet Again). Ok, remember how in cardiac arrests we used to do CPR until you had the pads on, and then we would stop to analyze the rhythm? And then remember a few years ago we were told that we needed to do uninterrupted CPR for two minutes before we did ANYTHING? Well, now it turns out that, at the least, the latter is no more beneficial than the former, and at worst, may be hurting our patients. Posted by Mass Medic.

CENTRAL MASS MEDICS: A Challenge Bigger Than A Marathon

http://centralmassmedics.blogspot.com/2011/04/challenge-bigger-than-marathon.html

Getting It Done, One Patient At A Time. Tuesday, April 19, 2011. A Challenge Bigger Than A Marathon. Marathon Monday was yesterday. That's the Monday each May where more than 30,000 aspirants gather on Hopkinton's town common hoping to join the hundreds of thousands of runners through history who have earned the title of "Finisher" of the Boston Marathon, the world's greatest road race. I've run Boston with Pat five times, although I took this year off. Before that, the last year I didn't run was 2005.

Getting It Done, One Patient At A Time. Monday, April 19, 2010. I know this isn't a "central Massachusetts" story, but I read this story. About a Paramedic battling cancer in New Hampshire and I felt like it was something I needed to spread the word about. Sarah Fox is a 38-year-old Paramedic who has 2 1/2-year-old twins and a 7-year-old daughter. She also has terminal cancer and has been given a year to live. Posted by Mass Medic. Getting It Done, One Patient At A Time. Monday, May 24, 2010. Not A Purely Hypothetical Question. Ok, so this is something of a poll question. I'd love to hear your responses. Do you believe that there is such a thing as "driving too slow" when using lights and sirens? Do you believe that, while using lights and sirens and patient loaded, it is your duty to "test the limits of the ambulance's performance? I sincerely want to hear your responses. This isn't a completely hypothetical question.

Wormtown Brewery

It all began in an ice cream shop on Park Ave in Worcester. After securing an SBA Loan from BayState Savings Bank with the help from The Clark University Business Development Center, a 10 barrel brew house was ordered. The walk in cooler from the ice cream stand would store the beer and an ice cream freezer would keep the hops fresh. All that was left was to make some beer and name the brewery. Well Wormtown was simply way cooler than Worcester Brewing Company. And it allows to have a little 3 decker...
