Interior life of a professional woman on the other side of 50. So, I got up today with the best of intentions. I thought I’d try a 30 day plan of meeting all these goals with. Keep all my appointments. Even the ones I’d rather reschedule like the dentist. Arrive everywhere on time. I am chronically late; heck, as a child, I lived directly across the street from the school and I was tardy every day morning and afternoon. I’ve been such a slacker since I won the bet with my daughter. Iron once a week.

Interior life of a professional woman on the other side of 50. I know CBC doesn’t really care what I think, but in my daydreams, I express such outrage about a recent radio debate that the programme’s host invites me onto the show to talk about it. . Well, hi there. I hear that you’re pretty upset about our debate last week about the glass ceiling. Yeah, a few of things are bothering me. What’s wrong with Heleen Mees? Economist and a feminist. You brought her on because you knew she’d give good radio.

Interior life of a professional woman on the other side of 50. Don’t You Ever Do That Again! Recently I came across an online article giving parents advice about how to deal with temper tantrums. I vowed to parent differently when my own were born. But, I wasn’t prepared for what my first had in store for me. We had just left the house and while I was not a perfect mother, neither was I a total idiot. She. Pottied before we left home. But she insisted that she could not wait. Dum de dum dum. I CAN DO IT!

Interior life of a professional woman on the other side of 50. Happily, she isn’t broken. She has resumed her life. But, my eye, when it falls upon her, is no longer carefree. My eye is now always scanning, looking for signs that she is or is not alright. Wondering what I can do. What I should do. My mother is a very private woman. My daughters tease me and say I’m just like her. And, where privacy is concerned, they’re right. I know this because something recently came up with my own mother. Somethi...

Interior life of a professional woman on the other side of 50. Did I leave the oven on? Muggy August night…sprawled on top of the sheets after a cold shower, feeling like I’ve got sunburn and someone’s torturing me with a heat lamp. That, despite the fan broadcasting cool air over my still-damp altogether. It’s like a bad cop/good cop routine. Heat…Cool…Heat…Cool…. I forbid him to do laundry). Glance at the stove as I pick up the kettle. 350? Did I leave the oven on last night? Where are my glasses?

Interior life of a professional woman on the other side of 50. It’s my potty and I’ll read what I want to. In our house live two information junkies. Atop a dresser in our bedroom sits a very old television I won about 16 years ago in a grocery store bingo-sticker game and carted back with me when I migrated from Saskatchewan. Because we occasionally like to. But when August comes, I doubt we’ll spend money on the. We’d need to convert to digital; instead we’ll just use the set to play movies. Some of th...
