Growing up, Reaching Out and Moving Forward. Meant to be…. Today I went to see my high school journalism teacher receive the National Scholastic Press Association’s Diversity Award. It was great to see him, catch up, and be a part of celebrating his honor. He is an amazing teacher and I hope Connor will encounter a teacher like him along his educational path. Then, on the way home I listened to a story on NPR about a woman who was once catholic but is now struggling. Since having Connor I have told a han...

Becoming a Fan | Growing up, Reaching Out and Moving Forward
https://emshields.wordpress.com/2009/07/14/becoming-a-fan
Growing up, Reaching Out and Moving Forward. When wasting time on Facebook I often see “their” recommendations for things I should be a fan of. About 99% of the time I ignore them. After all, what does it mean to “become a fan” and where should I even draw the line? There aren’t a whole lot of things I just do not like at all, so do I become a fan of everything I even remotely appreciate or do I reserve the honor of bestowing my fanhood on only the most important of things? No one has told me the rules!

I am Rich! | Growing up, Reaching Out and Moving Forward
https://emshields.wordpress.com/2009/05/04/i-am-rich
Growing up, Reaching Out and Moving Forward. The past week has been quite chaotic. Between a hospital stay I never saw coming, catching up on missed work and school, and then a swim meet to top it all off I had plenty to do! Saturday night I was feeling pretty worn out and kind of low but not sure why. Just in a funk I suppose. Then Sunday, after the meet I got a call to help some dear friends. Please think positive, pray, or whatever you feel comfortable doing for Taylor, Regina, Wayne, Ally and Charlie.

Welcome! | Growing up, Reaching Out and Moving Forward
https://emshields.wordpress.com/about
Growing up, Reaching Out and Moving Forward. In an attempt to fulfill multiple goals in one quick swipe I decided it was about time to start a blog. Hopefully this will allow me to:. 1- Record my thoughts, feelings, and stories so that Connor will one day be able to see who his family is from a different perspective. There is no better teacher than history and maybe this will reveal just one tool Connor will use as he grows up. 3- Take time each day (or once a week! Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Build a we...

Growing up, Reaching Out and Moving Forward. Garage Sales and the Pusscat Dolls. oh my! Boy, what a week. I was going to write this on Sunday evening, but the flu went and got in my way, so now I’m playing catch up. We decided late last week to have a garage sale along with our next door neighbor and some friends that live down the street. We have been meaning to do one for a long time, and I had quite a bit of junk so we decided to bite the bullet! What a great decision that turned out to be! So my old ...

Going Home | Growing up, Reaching Out and Moving Forward
https://emshields.wordpress.com/2009/05/06/going-home
Growing up, Reaching Out and Moving Forward. Jimmy and I received the best gift a week or two ago- my grandma is flying us to Arkansas to go on vacation with my parents at the end of this month and flying me to Stockton at the end of July. I don’t know if I can adequately describe how excited I am for these two trips. Even more than that, Jimmy and I get to take Connor to Lyon! Play at Pixie Woods and do other fun things that bring back such great memories for me. Laquo; I am Rich! Date : May 6, 2009.

My First Thanksgiving Tools | Growing up, Reaching Out and Moving Forward
https://emshields.wordpress.com/2009/04/22/my-first-thanksgiving-tools
Growing up, Reaching Out and Moving Forward. My First Thanksgiving Tools. On Connor’s birthday this past February I decided to make that day my own “Thanksgiving” to help me work through the strange emotions that were brought up with the day. Today I am thankful for junk cereal. I never really eat cereal, not a big fan, but Jimmy loves it. Today I woke up and was craving something sweet so I pulled out his cocoa stuff and boy did it hit the spot! I knew God had a reason for making that garbage! Yes- I am...

My day to day… | Growing up, Reaching Out and Moving Forward
https://emshields.wordpress.com/2009/05/01/my-day-to-day
Growing up, Reaching Out and Moving Forward. My day to day…. Some times I wish we had a tool to observe other peoples daily routines. Not in a “Truman Show” type of thing, it could be anonymous, but just a way to take notes on how other people do things, what works for them, and what makes them tick. Sadly, I don’t use those recipes as much as I should! We all go through hundreds of dollars and hours finding out what works in our homes and lives so why not help out the next person? Eat at least a little ...

Its been a while… time to be thankful! | Growing up, Reaching Out and Moving Forward
https://emshields.wordpress.com/2009/06/24/its-been-a-while-time-to-be-thankful
Growing up, Reaching Out and Moving Forward. Its been a while… time to be thankful! I have been terrible about writing on here! So much as been going on and I just have not had any significant amounts of time to sit down and work on any ideas, not to mention putting it down in writing! But- Connor is taking a late nap, Jimmy is at a baseball game, and I don’t have anything to pressing so here I am. Specifically my niece Meagan and Jimmy’s brother-in-law’s sister! Of course it would have been fun to take ...
