機械工学センター 当時は工作センター、2004年 平成16年 に機械工学センターに名称変更 は、1971年 昭和46年 ４月１日、国立学校設置法に基づき創設された高エネルギー研究所において、加速器研究系及び物理研究系とともに設置された共通研究系(Scientific and Tech-nical Service Department 研究主幹 三浦 功教授 の一部門である工作部門 Workshop として発足しました。 1972年 昭和47年 ３月１日、加速器及び実験装置の建設に直ちに協力出来るよう、加速器実験室の一隅において、教官１名、技官１名で工作業務を開始し、昭和47年４月12日、第１工作棟 金工室 が竣工するや、旋盤、フライス盤、ボール盤などの汎用機及び溶接設備を導入して、電磁石や測定装置の架台作りから支援活動に入りました。 1975年 昭和50年 頃には、工作依頼件数も 300件を越すようになると同時に、要求精度も厳しくなってくると、研削盤などの高精度機械を導入してこれらに対処しました。 1) 次世代加速管 Ｘバンド コンポネントの超精密加工の研究。
