In today's society…. September 25, 2008. 521 prompt #5, or “unfortunately, my dreams are only like tripping on boring, boring acid.”. On to dreams. I generally envy people who have the sort of dreams Barcy has. You know, the type you read about in books that are always vivid and clear and get turned into prophecy and metaphors for some universal truth. I wish I would have dreams like that. Well, unless I turned into the male equivalent of Cassandra. I have a friend who has sleep paralysis. This type of d...

In today's society…. October 30, 2008. 521 prompt #8, or “l’epoque avant mes pieds”. Parts of a morning somewhere between november 2007 and march 2008, recalled mostly through the sense of hearing and the action of repetition]. The wind splatters against the living room window, wet with snow and angry; the door slams, barking against the frame, the lock grinds. Three short flights of stairs down to the parking lot, each step on them made treacherous by a pastrami-layering of ice and snow, snow and ice.

In today's society…. December 9, 2008. 521 prompt #9, or “taking completely inarticulate issue with Thoreau”. In your own words, what is Thoreau’s view on man’s relationship with nature? Can we see this philosophy in any of the Romantic poetry we’ve read in the class so far? What I mean to say is that Thoreau’s walk is indeed a walk of science; if it separates man from modern civilization, it is only geographically, not ideologically. Though I would agree that some of Thoreau’s sentiments regarding natur...

Awesome Thoughts: Initial Adventures At the Mountains of Madness

All good things must come to. Thursday, October 9, 2008. Initial Adventures At the Mountains of Madness. Here is my initial research attempt, unabridged and unedited (it sounds so cool when movie ads say it). Forgive my splotchy quotations, captilized madness, and incomplete sentences- often I find myself going back and forth, finishing my thoughts after I start new ones. To give you a better idea as to the trajectory of this thing, I would like to eventually incorporate Frankenstein. Century Gothic tale...

All good things must come to. Thursday, September 18, 2008. We employed the now rather cliché Star Trek. Trope- "To boldly go where no one has gone before." Some rabid trekkies would correct me, "it should read 'where no MAN has gone before." My riposte: "We grew up in the Next Generation. Era So sod off.". Grow up in the Next Generation. Ground Trek/high adventure afficianados had hope of harboring during the labored hours of 1st grade. Sun-swept fields, green or beige grasses, earthen smells with sandy...

Awesome Thoughts: Apocalypse Now

All good things must come to. Monday, December 8, 2008. Rachel Carson says in Silent Spring:. 8220;The road we have long been traveling is deceptively easy, a smooth superhighway on which we progress with great speed, but at its end lies disaster” (277). Lead to the destruction of humans. The only argument is to what degree we can get away with our waste. Probably nothing good," he responds. How could it be good? Awesome Thoughts: December 2008
http://jaldenhughes.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
All good things must come to. Tuesday, December 16, 2008. Worried about a plethora of other garbage, some legit, some not. Dylan faded into the Traveling Wilburys. We passed a restaurant sign that I thought we had eaten at as children. "Oney's Hunter, Look! I cried. "Remember when Auntie took us there? Oney's," Hunter noted dryly. "More like.burned-Downey's.". I wheezed. "That's the one! You have never been away from Earth! I bet if Thoreau could have walked across the sea, we would have read about it...
