See You at Arno's: The Night We Met
http://seeyouatarnos.blogspot.com/2010/09/night-we-met.html
See You at Arno's. Four aspiring novelists plan literary-world domination from a New York ristorante. Sunday, September 12, 2010. The Night We Met. It was a cold night for New York in May. The kind of cold that seeps through your London Fog, crawls through your pores and settles in your marrow like squatters in a crack house. I'd stepped off 38. The lounge singer had just put a ribbon on the last notes of her song, and I asked her to sing mine next. It just didn't seem to matter. Sure thing, Mac.". Took ...

A look at style and fashion, from casual to workplace to formal occasions, from a man's perspective. Sunday, August 29, 2010. Rooster ties bring back memories. I remember acquring my first Rooster tie about seven years ago at a Salvation Army store in Bristol, Conn. I liked the brim of the tie being thin and that it had a good weight to it. Fast forward to Saturday . I went into Syms. Initially looking for Allen-Edmonds. Monday, August 9, 2010. Style Points branches out. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). New Y...

A look at style and fashion, from casual to workplace to formal occasions, from a man's perspective. Wednesday, July 29, 2009. Putting business travel attire to the test. I have not flown on an airplane in several months, but found no better time than last weekend to determine the worthiness of some travel clothing I recently purchased from Orvis. Time to fix that. I went to the Houston Hobby Airport wearing an Orvis Ultimate Windowpane Blazer. I wasn't too worried about how my outfit would hold up at th...

As a man builds his wardrobe and has command of his sartorial choices for various occasions, he also develops his personal sense of flair. To wit: Do you prefer wearing a necktie, bow tie or no tie? A look at style and fashion, from casual to workplace to formal occasions, from a man's perspective. Monday, August 31, 2009. I must admit, I've been out of touch. Could've sworn that The J. Peterman Co. Went out of business several years ago. Apparently, I was wrong. And I'm quite happy about that. A banded-collar, four-button garment with a long tail. I was stunned to find one my size at the time, because much of the merchandise was already sold. An all-cotton Kinsale Sark. And a pair of Ghurka Shorts.

It's time to fill in a few blanks in the wardrobe or upgrade some existing pieces. Summer sales are about to crescendo to great deals on menswear. A look at style and fashion, from casual to workplace to formal occasions, from a man's perspective. Saturday, October 9, 2010. Think pink for Breast Cancer Awareness. One of the most interesting and refreshing things that I have noticed, from watching NFL games on television to professional men on the go in Houston (and in my own wardrobe, for that matter) is the emergence of pink in men's outfits. Pink has long been a "preppy" color that's been available for years at retailers such as Brooks Brothers, ...

A look at style and fashion, from casual to workplace to formal occasions, from a man's perspective. Sunday, November 29, 2009. Golden rules between customers, salespeople. When I was a college student in the mid 1980s, I walked into Brooks Brothers in Boston and was met by an engaging salesman who introduced himself shortly after I walked through the door. I also knew that I was coming back to see Mr. Martin next time. As a customer, I get to know my sales associate. I only give him/her the informat...
