The Lotus 912 engine block, machined from aluminium 6082 alloy billet. Multiple surface finishes are employed to replicate the textures of the full size engine block. Even the casting marks and part number have been reproduced - not easy to create using a machining process. Machining almost complete, block mounted on the 5 axis CNC mill.

The manufacturing process involves 4 separate phases, state-of-the-art technology and a great deal of precision engineering. The CAD model was converted to CAM so the most efficient tool paths and machining could be developed. The resulting CAM file contains approximately 5 million lines of code to drive the 5-axis CNC milling machine. Each block requires almost 20 hours to manufacture.
