Skip to main content. Born To Be Wild. Kayak Fishing Fresh Water. On Fri, 12/13/2013 - 20:19. Kayak Fishing Fresh Water. Made a late start due to the cold morning and was on the water for 1:30. The high was forecast to be 60 today and that seemed good. I was able to catch 13 crappie all in one spot in the big lake. Looked at all 3 lakes and it showed the most promise. Didn't really try the others. Went back on the next day (Saturday) and caught 10 more in a similar fashion. Gave those away too.

Kept my losing streak alive with another scratch at Lorraine bridge. Went South just beyond where the old rail bridge was and only caught little perch and a couple of spotted gar. All day long you could see the little gar on top or maybe a foot down. There was never a time that you couldn't see one if you looked around.

We headed out to do an 8 mile paddle down a drainage canal into Bayou Lacassine, and found the water so high that we couldn't get under a bridge about half way to our destination. That's when we did our first ever portage. It wasn't too bad with two people, but not so great if I was alone. We didn't catch any fish but had a great day paddling through some nice cypress swamps. The water was a little muddy with the stinky marsh water bleeding in by spots.
