Sarah Callejo: Seasonal Writing
http://sarahcallejo.blogspot.com/2011/11/seasonal-writing.html
Writing on My Secret Island called Imagination. Saturday, 5 November 2011. My mood drops with the temperature as the cold seasons arrive. I only realize this when the sun comes back and the green shoots start to appear. That's when I can compare my new sunny mood to the gloomy cloud hovering above me during the winter. What influences your writing? 5 November 2011 at 09:38. Hi Sarah, Ive noticed that I get loads of ideas when Ive had no sleep. My brain seems sharper and I can think clearly. I agr...Such ...

On writing, reading, and other bits of life. Monday, October 25, 2010. To NaNo or Not to NaNo - That Is the Question. How can you resist an endeavor that brands itself as "thirty days and nights of literary abandon"? Such is the madness of National Novel Writing Month. Otherwise known as Nanowrimo. And yet, I think I need it this year. Not because I need to prove to myself that I can write a novel but because I need to blow out some creative cobwebs. A hectic summer gave way to an exhausting figh...View ...

Behind the Mystery: The Biggest Obstacle to Writing
http://behindthemystery.blogspot.com/2011/08/biggest-obstacle-to-writing.html
On writing, reading, and other bits of life. Monday, August 29, 2011. The Biggest Obstacle to Writing. The alarms blares at 5 am. Get up. Time to write. No one is making me. I don't have to. I could get another hour of wonderful, restorative sleep. I could write on my lunch break instead. You know how hard that is. I get up. Fuzzy-headed, I bless the Keurig and watch it dispense a cup of fuel. Then I turn on the laptop, let the dog outside, and sit down to write. I can't believe I'm doing this so early.

Behind the Mystery: An Encouraging Word
http://behindthemystery.blogspot.com/2011/07/encouraging-word.html
On writing, reading, and other bits of life. Saturday, July 16, 2011. I met with a few other local writers on Thursday night. Mostly it was a getting to know you, getting to know what you're working on, and a general sharing of ideas. As usual when writers get together, we were gently shooed out when the place closed down and still had plenty to say in the parking lot. We often don't realize how much influence we can wield over a person's day by a few well-chosen words. In Proverbs 3:27 it says, "Do ...

On writing, reading, and other bits of life. Wednesday, April 28, 2010. The Dialect Dilemma (or I dinna ken fit tae dee). One of the things I learned when I lived in Scotland was the incredible differences in regional dialects. Just as a New Yorker sounds different than a Californian, a Glaswegian sounds different than an Aberdonian. Really different. I lived in Peterhead, a fishing town that sticks out into the North Sea, and they speak in a Doric dialect. How are you doing? 1 It's a mess to read. My re...

On writing, reading, and other bits of life. Thursday, July 22, 2010. How Learning to Use a Document Map Saved My Bacon. When I first started writing a novel, I simply wrote. I had no idea of where to put chapter breaks, formatting, or such stuff as that. It all flowed into one long, frightening Word document. All 250 pages of it. When I finished and printed it out I wanted to cry. How on earth was I supposed to edit this? Great tutorial via Iain Broome. Write for Your Life. Links to this post. 1 One big...
