April 06, 2014. Somewhere over the Pacific on my way to Australia I listen to an old Guardian podcast from 2006 with Tony Benn, presumably dredged up by the Grauniad as a tribute. I can't say I knew much about him (except as a distant figure from my distant past), but it’s painful listening: he’s jauntily patrician, urbanely self-righteous, giving me the impression that he’s never even conceived. The two buildings are still there, both completely derelict now, but since Dogtown's being increasingly overrun by redevelopment, it's not clear how much longer these two will be around, at least in this form. This image is probably my favourite from that era - it's taken just near London Bridge BR station, with a series of long road tunnels and little shops under the railway viaduct, and a series of half-abandoned offices and tenements above the road level.
