Criticlasm: Tanaquil Leclerc
http://criticlasm.blogspot.com/2014/08/tanaquil-leclerc.html
A place to sound off about movies, books, and politics, and the culture at large, and let's face it, whatever I feel like. Saturday, August 09, 2014. I just finished watching the documentary "Afternoon of a Faun" about Tanaquil Leclerq from PBS American Masters. I loved watching that clip - I used to have a sort of obsession with ballet dancers, mainly the women, so this documentary looks interesting to me. Have you read the novel Astonish Me? Criticlasm: January 2015

A place to sound off about movies, books, and politics, and the culture at large, and let's face it, whatever I feel like. Tuesday, January 06, 2015. I hate writing. I love having written - Dorothy Parker. I'm new to this writing thing, folks. Well, not new. Let's revise that. I'm new to really sticking to this writing thing and not just vomiting something out every few years when the pressure builds up, folks. That sounds too complicated. Like the post below about good/bad, I think rules are great, nece...

Criticlasm: February 2014
http://criticlasm.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
A place to sound off about movies, books, and politics, and the culture at large, and let's face it, whatever I feel like. Thursday, February 06, 2014. I've been very sad lately. Happens. Some life things. Sometimes things are hard. Today was cloudy and gray, which felt right, and I found myself looking longingly at sweatshirts at a shop here at work. I had two bowls of soy ice cream last night - it takes two of those to one of a regular, in case you're interested. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Let the Gre...

Criticlasm: The Writing Brain
http://criticlasm.blogspot.com/2014/08/the-writing-brain.html
A place to sound off about movies, books, and politics, and the culture at large, and let's face it, whatever I feel like. Tuesday, August 26, 2014. Well, this is a fascinating MRI scanning experiment about writing. The difference in experienced and more novice writers' brains. 21 hours a week? Only 19 hours to go. In other news, it would be helpful if they discovered what part of the brain is involved in making one sit down and do it, and how to trigger it. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Criticlasm: Helen Keller & Annie Sullivan
http://criticlasm.blogspot.com/2014/09/helen-keller-annie-sullivan.html
A place to sound off about movies, books, and politics, and the culture at large, and let's face it, whatever I feel like. Tuesday, September 02, 2014. Helen Keller and Annie Sullivan. I'd never seen this. Breathtaking. Yes I saw that. Their story just never, ever gets old or boring. I had never heard her speak. Just incredible, with those words. That is incredible, i cant begin to fathom what it says about perception and about Helen and her teacher as human beings with extraordinary gifts.

Criticlasm: May 2014

A place to sound off about movies, books, and politics, and the culture at large, and let's face it, whatever I feel like. Friday, May 16, 2014. This puts a lot of those great Anne LaMott pieces of advice and encouragement into one article. So much great stuff. Is it okay with you that you blow off your writing, or whatever your creative/spiritual calling, because your priority is to go to the gym or do yoga five days a week? Would you give us one of those days back, to play or study poetry? Some days mo...

Criticlasm: Cleese and creativity
http://criticlasm.blogspot.com/2014/10/cleese-and-creativity.html
A place to sound off about movies, books, and politics, and the culture at large, and let's face it, whatever I feel like. Wednesday, October 29, 2014. I was looking at my notebook today, as I'm feeling a little stuck -. Okay, full disclosure: I picked up a screenplay that I'd started and submitted for a fellowship that I hadn't looked at for a few months. Of course, my first thought was that it was awful, and I was as well by extension. Then I went and got an iced tea. A great creativity motivator.
