The Word Lab | Young Writers Santa Cruz

Chamber of Heart & Mystery. The Word Lab opens Oct. 3 at 2:30 at the Museum of Art and History. Funded in part by a $20K grant from the National Writing Project’s LRNG Challenge Grant, The Word Lab will offer students in local middle and elementary school an extended day program where they will work on their writing with the assistance of community writing mentors. Volunteers are needed to work with students in The Word Lab. A commitment of one day a week, two hours a day is asked.

With comfy chairs and home-like design elements, the Dedicated Writing Room has become a place where students look forward to being, knowing they’ll be able to participate in a project that culminates in a published book of the writing of all eighth graders. Projects will take place under the auspices of eighth grade teachers Wendy Thompson, Sandra Jennings, and Sara Goldfarb and be spread across the academic year with the first phase taking place with Wendy Thompson’s students.
