The Knight Lamp : Welcome! (Lab rats, White bunnies and Santa not allowed)
http://knightlamp.blogspot.com/2014/05/welcome-lab-rats-white-bunnies-and.html
Reflections on youthwork, complex trauma, and out of home care. Saturday, 17 May 2014. Lab rats, White bunnies and Santa not allowed). I drove past this childcare centre the other day, and was surprised to see its name. Why on earth would you choose ‘Little Albert’? I can see the logic, it’s on Albert Street, and full of little people, so ‘Little Albert’ makes sense. But anybody who has ever enrolled in Psych 101 will see a different association. 8216;Little Albert’. This was one of several unethical exp...

Think Reflect. Learn. Share. The light, the dark and shades of grey @ Top Arts: VCE 2010. Not that Kind of … bookclub →. Advocacy: Something small can impact all. February 3, 2012. This YouTube clip, got me thinking about advocacy. I had a quick Google to find a definition of advocacy and came across this one, it is pretty old, but I think it still captures the current understanding of advocacy :. In the video, Mads talks about her frustration with the fact that she couldn’t book her airfares onlin...

Think Reflect. Learn. Share. The light, the dark and shades of grey @ Top Arts: VCE 2010 →. Evaluation: On the back of a door. April 18, 2011. Whilst in the vein of evaluation – and I promise I will at some point write about something else – I thought I might share something I have tried with evaluation recently. I have been doing an unusual side project – which you can read about here. Something a bit different so thought I would share. This entry was posted in Evaluation. July 21, 2011 at 10:00 pm.

Think Reflect. Learn. Share. Evaluation: On the back of a door. Advocacy: Something small can impact all →. The light, the dark and shades of grey @ Top Arts: VCE 2010. May 23, 2011. It is an interesting, diverse and inspiring exhibition. There a number of drawings with a charcoal drawing of the artists dad which captures the grief and loss felt after the passing of a close family member, resonating with me. There are dynamic creative installations, like the one by Marisa Lai, which uses paper cu...Advoc...

Think Reflect. Learn. Share. Advocacy: Something small can impact all. Not that Kind of … bookclub. January 15, 2015. Bob: My first book club for 2015 was full of surprises tonight. Even though I hadn’t read the book – the minimum criteria for most book clubs – I decided to turn up anyway. After all, I have a thought (not always informed) on most things! And good news, I think I was accepted into the book reading fold. Not that Kind of Girl. I love this group. First up was the writing of our own book.

Think Reflect. Learn. Share. Different ways to evaluate. Evaluation: On the back of a door →. April 14, 2011. A work colleague shared some wise words with me recently about evaluation – which was, you can’t expect people who have attended a two hour session to complete a long evaluation form. And she is right! She then shared something that she had done before, which is quick, cheery and fun. It is based upon the idea of a target. Quick update: Here is an example of the target evaluation in action –...

I think he also took a fancy to Hortencia, my nanny (who wouldn’t? She was gorgeous) and that’s also why he hung around. I used to stand out there chatting with him, he took a real interest and spoke to me like I was an adult. I said to him, “can you carve me something? 8221; and he told me he could, whatever I wanted, if I found a piece of wood. I ran into th...

The Knight Lamp : GRAND THEFT BIRO: Kleptomania And Validation
http://knightlamp.blogspot.com/2014/09/grand-theft-biro-kleptomania-and.html
Reflections on youthwork, complex trauma, and out of home care. Monday, 29 September 2014. GRAND THEFT BIRO: Kleptomania And Validation. A young man in one of our therapeutic care programs, ‘Timmy’, had the harmless habit of stealing pens from desks, bags and shirt pockets. It was harmless enough, but it needed to be addressed, partly because some people are rather attached to their pens (some are rather expensive) and mostly because stealing is a rather maladaptive and unlawful habit. So what to do?
