On the road in Niger. The Niger border guards were really nice, but when we got into town we really thought we had died and gone to heaven. After 10 days in Algeria. Subsisting on dates and awful Algerian cigarettes, in the town of Assamakka, every little shack was a store/restaurant, selling major-brand cigarettes, cold beer, Cokes, Coffee. So we stopped and got some lunch, smoked some decent cigarettes and had a Heineken beer! Andy and I, and two of the French guys with a station wagon and a bachet.

Click map to enlarge. CIA World Fact book. Lion and Rhino Park&. Mbaswana, Izilwani Lodge. January 1, 2004, I returned to Africa for the first time in more than 10 years. I was thrilled to feel the pulse of Mother Africa again. But the most exciting part was bringing my 3-year-old boy and my 6-year-old daughter along. Laura, my wife, had been to South Africa previously. This trip was a business trip for her, but the children and I were on holiday. Are a problem there, too. But not just the Big Five can b...

Iceland is a rough place, dominated by the bare elements of Water. And Fire. It is so rough because it is a relatively young place on earth, only 20 million years, and because of its location near the arctic circle. In places where vegetation has taken hold, it is full of lush pastures. Full of grazing sheep and ponies. Other areas are dominated by vast volcanic deserts and glaciers. The history of Iceland. We enjoyed gorgeous Kailua Beach Park and the famous Nu'uanu Pali Lookout. We took a day-trip to Honolulu, were we visited the Zoo - right on Waikiki Beach. We had lunch at a small Korean restaurant in downtown Honolulu and went shopping at the Honolulu Costco :).

On the road in Morocco / En route en maroc. After two months and 2000 KM (1250 miles) crossing France and Spain, I arrived in Morocco in March 1991 on my bicycle. I spent three months in Morocco, some on the road, some hanging out with friends I knew from previous Morocco trips. The legendary Maghrebian hospitality is perhaps the most remarkable lasting memory from all my Morocco tours, but especially from my bike trips. Bab Boujeloud, the blue gate, sits near the highest point of the old city. Only ...
