Desperate Housewife in Holland: July 2012

Thursday, July 12, 2012. DH Ahaus gave me a baby zucchini plant. Little did I know it can bloom and flourish into a healthy plant with courgette flowers. It is easy to find zucchini or courgette but not the flower here at the market or supermarket. I could only see them served in chic restaurants. I wanted to try fry these flowers. Or filled them with cheese or mushrooms, said DH Romania. These are males hanging out together. The females have a courgette fruit under their flowers as a base. Going gaga an...

Monday, June 25, 2012. Raku Firing and Banana Cake. This title above is a bit confusing . One didn't have anything to do with the other. I just came back from a very interesting activity, Raku firing. And I baked some banana cupcakes and brought it along for this occassion. Nobody was here in the photo, everyone was off to work and firing. Beautiful clay work were sitting patiently waiting their turns to enter the kilns to be fired. It was said, ceramics were being most likely handshaped than thrown.

Friday, December 20, 2013. I made some Tong Yuen recently. I made some rainbow colours tong yuen last year see last year. But this year my colour choice came from this bowl I have made. I will name this bowl Siew Chooi. Although Siew Chooi is not perfectly thrown on the throwing wheel but the imperfection makes Siew Chooi unique. I usually like cold tong yuen but it is so cold here in Holland right now, a warm bowl of tong yuen is better. I got a bit carried away with the colours. Links to this post.

Monday, August 6, 2012. TODAY I heard.Aung San Suu Kyi. TODAY I heard my friends talk about Aung San Suu Kyi, how we all wanted to watch a movie The Lady directed by Luc Besson ,starring Michelle Yeoh. The Lady depicts Aung San Suu Kyi's struggle to free Myanmar from its Military rulers that has opposed to democracy and human rights. I suppose I should at least try to do a quick one. I hope I could get away with this one. 8213; Aung San Suu Kyi. Another quote I particular like by Aung San Suu Kyi is.

Friday, December 21, 2012. I was told today is Guo Tong or. Yuanxiao day. It has been at least 15 years since I last ate this. I remembered making this with my sister and mum. And while preparing this all 3 of us would gathered around the pot of ginger sugar syrup and rolling these little balls and chat, exchanging stories, which was fun. Of course I have to tell her the story of Tang Yuan and why are we making this. She finds it bizarr. Luckily I had googled and read about it from. Links to this post.

Friday, September 27, 2013. Baked some buns today. I wanted to illustrate this recipe for myself as I can't read a recipe while baking. I have to be able to just "look" at a recipe and bake. If I have to read I will probably make some tea and even start have the fireplace on. By the time I finish reading a recipe I might probably doze off like a grandma with my cats nestling near my ankles. I have some steamed yams filling for the buns. One thing lead to another. And another. I can't help myself ...Thurs...
