Case for Children's Museums. The impetus for establishing a children’s museum in Jacksonville was the result of taking kindergarten students on the hour long bus ride to and from the children’s museum in Wilmington. With the high population of young families in Jacksonville and the surrounding communities, it seemed like it would be a natural fit for Onslow County. Lani Beuerman and Liz Owens, along with ten other interested individuals began to work on making this vision a reality. By the CabCo Players.

I support this wholeheartedly! The young age of our population seems to support the addition of such a location. Case for Children's Museums. The oldest children’s museum is in Brooklyn, NY established in 1899. The largest one is in Indianapolis and has 433,000 square feet. 44 other states have at least one children’s museum. There are children’s museums in over 22 countries. 2008 demographic data shows that there are close to 19,700 children between the ages of one and eight in Onslow County. Over 75% of children age birth-5 years have an active duty parent. Play is our brain's favorite way of learning.
