A German in South Africa. March 13, 2009. After almost 14 years in North Africa (Barcelona), I eventually decided to move to South Africa (Johannesburg). Considering that I wouldn t really miss anything about Barcelona except for Barça and a French girl, it was a relatively easy decision. An interesting fact I found is that there are roughly 10 million trees in Joburg. Considering that the population, including the surrounding areas, is about 10 million people, this means 1 tree per person!

A German in South Africa. May 10, 2009. My first step towards discovering Africa is Ghana. The 6 hour flight makes European consulting look like a vacation. I've been told that Ghana is actually a very developed country compared to others in Africa. Well, in that case I'm curious to see the rest. Last Saturday, I took the opportunity and went to see the game Spain-South Africa in Bloemfontein! On our way, fully equipped with flags and football caps. The only party in town: the stadium. We drove around for an hour and didn't find civilisation apart from a shopping mall the size of a small European country. If that one isn't poisonous. The hippos are waiting for their prey. At this point in time, I thought it would step on my car. The car hire company wouldn't have been amused, they are huge!

A German in South Africa. August 02, 2009. At just about an hour drive from Joburg, the Krugersdorp reserve is relatively small but there s quite a lot to see. Greeted by giraffes at the entrance. Snack time: a 300kg burger for the lions. A rather stupid lion approached the lion king from behind, which he didn t particularly like. Breakfast is almost over. Pretty curious, this chap. A German in South Africa. October 20, 2011. Cape Town October 2011. After one year, finally back to Cape Town for a few days. That good old mountain . Our humble backpackers stay in Camps Bay. Our pool wasn't even heated. My little one with her favourite pastime: sipping cocktails at Oyo. Whale watching in Hermanus (two whales in the background, bigger ones in the water, though not visible.). Wine tasting at its best: Rust En Vrede. When I grow up, I want to live in Rust En Vrede's cellar.
