Brocko's Modern Life: January 2011
http://brockoslife.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Friday, January 28, 2011. Sorry this is not the camioneta video. That will be coming soon though. I was asked to make a thank you video because Zoe's, one of the people I work with, Uncle's elementary school had a toy drive for the library. I think that its really good for my first video. Even though its a thank you video it gives a great look at the library that we run from the children's point of view. I hope you all enjoy and yes I wrote the voice over, shot the video, and made it. We had a DJ, bounce...

Brocko's Modern Life: February 2011
http://brockoslife.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Friday, February 25, 2011. This past weekend Hannah and I spent our first night at Jesus Devino. For the past 4 months we have started partnering with another foundation in the valley called Jesus Devino. It is an organization that my boss, Bibi, used to work with when she was in the Peace Corps. They take in kids who have been orphaned because their parents are in jail, and provides them with their basic needs and education. This past weekend it was Hannah and my turn. Then towards the end of our time t...

Brocko's Modern Life: March 2011
http://brockoslife.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, March 27, 2011. Leading the UGA Spring Break group was so much fun. While having to be in charge for a week and needing to be on top of everything was stressful at times, my group was very easy going and got along well. It was a breath of fresh air having them here. With these facts I was nervous having people come down for a week expecting extreme poverty and shanty houses, with the climate here even the poorest of the poor will have cinderblock homes. We painted the different areas and built a ...

Wednesday, June 22, 2011. Catchafire is a nonprofit that links professionals with nonprofits that have specific needs but no way of paying a profesional for them. Through this organisation MPI has had a several professionals work with our board. For example we had a consultant help us with a market study to discover what volunteers were looking for in nonprofits like MPI. MPI was recently featured on Cathafire's blog and I encourage you to check it out. Posted by Brock Petersen. Me and My Friends.

Brocko's Modern Life: June 2011
http://brockoslife.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Friday, June 24, 2011. While in the jungle I had the opportunity to steep in a cage with a year old ocelot. The Ecuadorian guide told me before getting in the cage that if it was feisty jump out of the cage quickly. Apparently this was not feisty and I got to play with the cat. Brocko's Modern Life: April 2011
http://brockoslife.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 21, 2011. Ecuador is 75% catholic and 24% protestant and like most Latin American countries it is extremely family oriented. These factors make Semana Santa (Holly Week) one of the most important weeks of the year here. Most people take the entire week off and the national holiday starts on Thursday. On Thursday families gather like we do for Thanksgiving and work all day on making Fanesca, here is a link to Anamisi’s site with the recipe. Eating Fanesca over and over again. We ripped off...

Brocko's Modern Life: August 2010
http://brockoslife.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Tuesday, August 24, 2010. This was a fun week and marked the end of camp. We had a graduation-ish ceremony at the end of camp where most of the kids’ parents came. It was cool seeing so much support from their parents. To start off the ceremony we introduced Manna and our partner organization Anamisi. After the introduction, the younger children put on a puppet play with handmade puppets they worked on the previous week. Watching the 4 to 9 year olds put on the puppet show was priceless. At the conclusio...
