Khanya e isoe ho Molimo holimo. Tales from Dystopia VIII: Deportation from Namibia. Antoinette Halberstadt and Stephen Hayes leaving Namibia 10 minutes before deportation deadline. The photos sparked off some discussion among Toni’s Facebook friends who asked what had happened, but there isn’t really room to tell it in Facebook comments, so I thought I’d say a bit more about it in a blog post, though this isn’t by any means the full story. I worked as a proof reader and rewrite man for the. On a Sunday a...

Christina Mothapo’s funeral | Khanya
https://khanya.wordpress.com/2015/07/11/christina-mothapos-funeral
Khanya e isoe ho Molimo holimo. Christina Mothapo’s funeral. Today we buried Christina Mothapo, at 89 the oldest member of our Mamelodi mission congregation. She had been, like most of the other members, a member of the African Orthodox Episcopal Church, whose leader, then Archbishop Simon Thamaga asked in 1997 to join the Patriarchate of Alexandria. Christina was not only the oldest, but also one of the most faithful members. One of the things Christina was very insistent on was that she wanted an Ortho...

Charismatic Renewal | Khanya
https://khanya.wordpress.com/charismatic-renewal
Khanya e isoe ho Molimo holimo. I am engaged in a research project with John de Gruchy, a former Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Cape Town, to write a history of the Charismatic Renewal in Southern African Christianity. The charismatic renewal was a worldwide movement within Christianity that flourished mainly in the 1970s and 1980s. It involved a rediscovery of the gifts of the Holy Spirit (. What distinguishes the charismatic renewal, which came about 50-60 years later than the Pent...

Mutual influence among the Inklings | Khanya

Khanya e isoe ho Molimo holimo. Mutual influence among the Inklings. The Company They Keep: C. S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien as Writers in Community. By Diana Pavlac Glyer. My rating: 5 of 5 stars. Several books and articles have been written about the literary group known as the Inklings, but this is one of the best and most informative. A genius”. After the Renaissance the inspiration is seen as part of the poet himself and we say “he. View all my reviews. In many ways we have it much easier than the o...

Carpenter's Shoes: September 2013
http://carpenters-shoes.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Monday, September 30, 2013. It takes quite a bit of self-discipline to just stop. But I do have my PhD work and I intend to use every moment of this time productively on my thesis! Links to this post. Friday, September 27, 2013. On referring to 'my church'. This is one of the oddities of the way we speak. We use 'my' to mean things that we own exclusively, such as 'my squash racquet' or 'my breakfast', but we also use it to mean places that we belong such as 'my school' or 'my squash club'. Is your exper...

Carpenter's Shoes: October 2014
http://carpenters-shoes.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, October 21, 2014. My daughter turned 21 a week ago. She had friends and family around over the weekend. We had a beautiful day for it. Links to this post. This was parked at the back of the Ravensmead Church last Sunday. The rain has eventually stopped (mostly) in Cape Town and church attendance is picking up. It is also actually light when the early services start. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Antioch Crossing Blog Community. Church and Theology Blogs.

The words said were "Lord, send your Holy Spirit upon Jenny Hillebrand for the office and work of a Minister in the Church of Christ.". I feel privileged to have had such a group pray for me! Carpenter's Shoes: November 2013
http://carpenters-shoes.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, November 19, 2013. I feel like I have been holding my breath for the last few weeks! We heard yesterday, at the very last possible moment that we have finance to buy a house in Cape Town. Apart from anything else, we now know where we will be moving to when the removal truck comes in two weeks time! This house is not only a place to stay, but a bit of security for our kids who are going to be studying at UCT. We are not planning on leaving Cape Town, but the church could send us anywhere! At fir...
