A Reader's Digest

Thursday, August 8, 2013. The Life and Times of Michael K by J. M. Coetzee. Sunday, August 4, 2013. Coraline by Neil Gaiman and illustrated by Dave McKean. Tells the story of Coraline, who trades her family for an empty mirror family, and then must decide how to get her real family back. It's a nice story of persistence and the substance of things, but I just didn't like it as well as The Graveyard Book. Moon Tiger by Penelope Lively. Fevre Dream by George R. R. Martin. This collection of stories. Covers...

A Reader's Digest: May 2013

http://areadersdigest.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html

Friday, May 31, 2013. Raven Girl by Audrey Niffenegger. Last Argument of Kings by Joe Abercrombie. Sacred Hunger by Barry Unsworth. What are the costs of disappointment? What possible satisfactions can we obtain from revenge? Is it possible for a group of people, one set of whom tried to sell the other set into slavery, and who speak many different languages, to live together in harmony? Altogether it makes a fascinating story. Winner of the 1992 Booker Prize with The English Patient. And what it means t...

A Reader's Digest: Stories: All-New Tales edited by Neil Gaiman and Al Sarrantonio

http://areadersdigest.blogspot.com/2013/08/stories-all-new-tales-edited-by-neil.html

Sunday, August 4, 2013. Stories: All-New Tales edited by Neil Gaiman and Al Sarrantonio. This collection of stories. Covers a wide range of genres and a wide range of authors. Mostly the stories leaned toward the fantastic or toward horror. I mostly enjoyed this collection, but I don't know that any stuck out so much that I am going to track down more by that author specifically on that story's account. It's really an impressive collection of essays. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Wheel of Time.

Book Reviews and Short Story Links

Book Reviews and Short Story Links. Table Manners for Monsters. Tabitha and Todd had a tea party and a bunch of monsters showed up. They showed up uninvited at the front door and rang the doorbell over and over and over until she answered the door. They didn't wipe their feet when they came into the house and tracked mud everywhere down the hall. They rushed into Tabitha's room and jumped on her bed that she had just made until they broke it. Where they didn't flush the toilet! Which was quite rude!
