Perpetually In Transit: Life in the great outdoors
http://perpetually-in-transit.blogspot.com/2015/06/life-in-great-outdoors.html
Reflections from a roving retirement. Tuesday, June 09, 2015. Life in the great outdoors. Once DH had fired up the ride-on mower and tamed the hayfield that our lawn had become, it was time to tackle the flowerbeds. For some reason the delightful previous owners of our house seem to have had a love affair with privet, with the result that two out of three of the flowerbeds were dominated by disproportionately large privet bushes. For light relief I’ve also started work on the other half of the bed,...

Perpetually In Transit: The month that vanished
http://perpetually-in-transit.blogspot.com/2015/05/the-month-that-vanished.html
Reflections from a roving retirement. Friday, May 22, 2015. The month that vanished. To my horror I’ve realised that it’s nearly three weeks since my last post and I simply do not know where May has gone! So here, from a still cool and showery Mid-Wales, is a glimpse of our new normal. Hills to the right of me. Hills to the left of me. On the bridge looking upstream. And across the road looking downstream. Along the winding road to home. 22 May 2015 at 17:55. Hope you get some sun in mid-Wales soon.

Perpetually In Transit: January 2015
http://perpetually-in-transit.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Reflections from a roving retirement. Thursday, January 22, 2015. However I do have to rouse myself from my torpor at regular intervals, now that my physio exercises are consuming at least 15 minutes three times a day and there is (at last! But between these short bursts of activity I’ve been coasting – reading, listening to music and watching pleasant but undemanding TV. My brain just refuses to do demanding at the moment and who am I to argue with it? Wednesday, January 07, 2015. Now for some gentle, t...

Perpetually In Transit: April 2015
http://perpetually-in-transit.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Reflections from a roving retirement. Thursday, April 30, 2015. A month full of memories. 8220;April is the cruellest month” wrote the poet T S Eliot in the opening lines of The Waste Land. Forgive the poetic exaggeration, but I do find April an emotional month, filled as it is with so many significant family anniversaries and the memories that accompany them. The first in my grandfather’s birthday on the 3. Almost a fortnight elapses before the next dates arrive, starting with the birthday on the 15.

Perpetually In Transit: Treacle toffee
http://perpetually-in-transit.blogspot.com/p/treacle-toffee.html
Reflections from a roving retirement. My mother's simple recipe, begged from her when DS and DD were old enough for our own bonfire and all the trimmings. 189;lb (225grms) brown sugar (dark brown or Demerara). 1 small teaspoon vinegar (malt will do). 2 tablespoons black treacle (molasses). 1 tablespoon cold water. Put all the ingredients into a large pan and heat gently, stirring constantly, until the sugar has completely dissolved. Boil hard for 10 to 15 minutes, until the mixture reaches 150. A challen...

Perpetually In Transit: March 2015
http://perpetually-in-transit.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Reflections from a roving retirement. Saturday, March 28, 2015. On the road again. It’s Saturday morning and I am typing this in an empty house, the only sounds the clicking of the keys and the wind lashing the rain against the window next to my desk. Yesterday afternoon I waved DH off on another of his regular visits to his very elderly mother and after clearing a few chores headed out into the garden. Tuesday, March 17, 2015. From family past to family present. After my recent forays into my familyR...

Perpetually In Transit: July 2015
http://perpetually-in-transit.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Reflections from a roving retirement. Tuesday, July 07, 2015. A time of adjustment. My last post was written just 3 days before we set off on our journey to Normandy and since then a lot has happened. After spending a couple of days with my dear mother-in-law, we visited DS and his family for the weekend and finally arrived here just before midnight a couple of weeks ago.
