Chasing Chickadees: July 2015
http://www.chasingchickadeesblog.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 28, 2015. Back in the spring, two good friends and fellow bird nerds, announced their engagement. For our photo shoot, we raced the setting sun to Vermillion Lighthouse in Lake Havasu City, AZ. Aside from their mutual love for feathered creatures, these two lovebirds have a zest for life that will follow them into the days of worn, graying plumages. Location: Lake Havasu City, AZ, USA. Chasing Chickadees: August 2014

Sunday, August 3, 2014. When Ropes invited me try my hand at helping build a local Guatemalan’s house, how could I say no? Cashing in my many credit card churned points (my secret to flying for free), I threw my life into my 60L pack and headed to San Marcos La Laguna. It is one of many small Mayan villages surrounding Lake Atitlan, “the world’s most beautiful lake” believed by writer Aldous Huxley. The breathtaking view from our volunteer house. Layering adobe blocks is a bit like making a muddy cake.

Chasing Chickadees: How could I say “no” to something the size of a mint chocolate chip waffle cone?

Sunday, July 17, 2016. How could I say “no” to something the size of a mint chocolate chip waffle cone? An Elf Owl kind of sunset over the Bill Williams river. Kayaking through the beautiful Topock Gorge on the Colorado River. Ocotillo displays it's gorgeous blooms. It reminds me of the underwater world plants in Super Mario Bros 3. This chuckwalla basks in the desert sun, proudly showing off his designer reptilian suit. A grumpy Elf Owl. Often, the nights would bring about unexpected treats like thread ...

Chasing Chickadees: July 2013

Saturday, July 20, 2013. Santa Cruz Beach Bum. This vagabond settled down for six months in the gorgeous Santa Cruz, California frolicking a mile from the beach and living as a teacher naturalist. The exhaustion of teaching twenty-five fifth graders each week at Outdoor Science School is balanced by the joy of seeing kids explore nature. The days began with silly songs then hikes through the redwood forests in search of newts, banana slugs to kiss, and birds to track. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Chasing Chickadees: April 2014

Sunday, April 6, 2014. Heart of the Amazon Rainforest. Moments in a motocar:. The same path that has given me freedom has led me to restlessness.”. Yellow-rumped Cacique contemplating what odd noise to make next. A rare species of Amazonian woman can sometimes be found deep in the rainforest, often encountered near swarms of biting insects and loud birds. Sky scavengers have a street feast after the Belén, a local marketplace full of fruits, tobacco, fish, and seated next to the Amazon River.

Sunday, April 3, 2016. Once upon a time on Paicines Ranch. Once upon a time, there was a magical ranch tucked neatly into the rolling valleys of California. On it, all living things worked together in a beautiful orchestra of community. On those 7,000 acres of land, holistic grazing practices were put into place, birds, plants, and soils were monitored for biodiversity health, and the entire ranch was an open classroom for those with open minds to come learn. After the 1100 head of cattle had been moved ...

Thursday, January 14, 2016. Road Tripping South Africa. Last April, I stumbled upon TravelisFree.com, which had an unbelievable airfare deal to South Africa. My wanderlust had me soon purchasing tickets for a trip in the fall for three weeks. Three magical weeks road tripping South Africa. 8220;A good traveler has no fixed plans and is not intent on arriving.”-Lao Tzu. On our first day, Baloo and Elvis, our guides, took us on a bush hike. Highlights were elephants chomping on trees, giant elephant du...
