Chasing Chickadees: August 2014

http://www.chasingchickadeesblog.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, August 3, 2014. When Ropes invited me try my hand at helping build a local Guatemalan’s house, how could I say no? Cashing in my many credit card churned points (my secret to flying for free), I threw my life into my 60L pack and headed to San Marcos La Laguna. It is one of many small Mayan villages surrounding Lake Atitlan, “the world’s most beautiful lake” believed by writer Aldous Huxley. The breathtaking view from our volunteer house. Layering adobe blocks is a bit like making a muddy cake.

Chasing Chickadees: How could I say “no” to something the size of a mint chocolate chip waffle cone?

http://www.chasingchickadeesblog.com/2016/07/how-could-i-say-no-to-something-size-of.html

Sunday, July 17, 2016. How could I say “no” to something the size of a mint chocolate chip waffle cone? An Elf Owl kind of sunset over the Bill Williams river. Kayaking through the beautiful Topock Gorge on the Colorado River. Ocotillo displays it's gorgeous blooms. It reminds me of the underwater world plants in Super Mario Bros 3. This chuckwalla basks in the desert sun, proudly showing off his designer reptilian suit. A grumpy Elf Owl. Often, the nights would bring about unexpected treats like thread ...

Chasing Chickadees: July 2015

http://www.chasingchickadeesblog.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Tuesday, July 28, 2015. Back in the spring, two good friends and fellow bird nerds, announced their engagement. For our photo shoot, we raced the setting sun to Vermillion Lighthouse in Lake Havasu City, AZ. Aside from their mutual love for feathered creatures, these two lovebirds have a zest for life that will follow them into the days of worn, graying plumages. Location: Lake Havasu City, AZ, USA. Chasing Chickadees: November 2012

http://www.chasingchickadeesblog.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

Sunday, November 25, 2012. Sierra Kind of Summer. I was greeted back to the Sierras with familiar faces, unfamiliar ones that were soon to become my summer family, and an unidentifiable shot that I downed with the usual swagger and cowboy face. The next few months were an unwritten mystery begging to be written. My love for woodpeckers bloomed tenfold, as I developed new stealthy techniques to find those pesky Black-backed woodpeckers and Flickers. The summer was this. A spattering of sparkly moments.

Phainopepla Fables: Christmas Birding Trip: Bill Williams to Yuma

http://phainopepla.blogspot.com/2013/01/christmas-birding-trip-bill-williams-to.html

Birding in the Lower Colorado River Valley. Monday, January 21, 2013. Christmas Birding Trip: Bill Williams to Yuma. This post is a bit belated, but December 15 was my first Christmas Bird Count of the season, the Yuma/Martinez Lake count. Centered on Imperial Dam, the count circle is equal parts Yuma County, AZ and Imperial County, AZ. Since Yuma is a good three hour drive, I thought it might be wise to camp down there so I could be fresh for bird counting first thing in the morning! The Loch Ness Scoter.

Phainopepla Fables: September 2012

http://phainopepla.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

Birding in the Lower Colorado River Valley. Saturday, September 1, 2012. White Ibis in Baker, CA. David and I were wrapping up a week of work when we got word of a White Ibis discovered yesterday morning in Baker, CA- a neighboring desert locale a few hours from the LCRV. There are only three previous records of this bird in California. This status is somewhat surprising given their range. Should we wait until the next morning? As it struggled to gain a purchase in the dead branches with its gangly red l...

Birding in the Lower Colorado River Valley. Sunday, December 2, 2012. ANOTHER Lesser Black-backed Gull. November 30th, after a lovely day rediscovering the now-returned Nutting's Flycatcher. Hiking in the Bill Williams, and finding my La Paz County Winter Wren, I thought I had used up all my birding karma for a little while. Still, when I pulled into the refuge headquarters to scan the Bill Williams Delta, a not insignificant part of me was hoping that the Lesser Black-backed Gull. The magical photo show...

Parties and Pretty Things. Tonight there is a blue moon which is quite rare. Blue moons are the second full moon occurring within the same month. Full moons are known for being an emotionally charged time, so with two in one month people may be feeling extra intense energy. This is a good time to take that energy and look within for a little self reflection. You saw me standing alone,. Without a dream in my heart,. Without a love of my own.”. I just wrapped up my first (supposed to be 2nd but I am behind! Week in the storytelling workshop I am in. I wanted to share my images each week to document my progress and much needed pictures of my sweet girl :) This week we were focusing on "leading lines" and working with what we have! I do have to say though. that I do love our house. The living room has great natural light which is one of the immediate things I loved! Now if only my kitchen had that. Almost done, but not quite!
