Confucius 551BC-479BC was born in Qufu in the state of Lu, China. He was an administrator in the Lu court, later becoming a teacher who travelled throughout the Chinese empire. What he taught was passed down orally by his disciples and much later set down by Confucian scholars. Zi Gong, a disciple, asked: "Is there any word that could guide a person throughout life?
