Tier 3 Data Centre ATS. Following a mains outage and failure of an auto transfer system at a data centre we were contacted to investigate the incident and provide proposals for improving the reliability of the system. The new Dual Channel Fault Tolerant control system was fitted and commissioned over a three day period without disrupting the business of the data centre. The new control equipment significantly reduced the chance of a failure and enhanced the monitoring of the entire system.

In the dual channel fault tolerant system the power supplies, CPUs, field wiring, annunciation facilities, instrumentation and equipment conveying the commands to the field based modules, are duplicated. In effect two electrically separated systems, each capable of performing the control task are connected to the final control modules in the field.

Tier 3 Data Centre ATS. Dynamic Load Contol / Load Shedding. The facility used a PLC system and a distributed i/o system networked across the building. A central SCADA system was supplied to provide status and configuration information. The user interface provided a means where the load shedding and take-up behaviour of the system could be customised to changes that naturally occur during the life of a building. The system is backed up using a UPS system and is immune to normal power outages.
