My mother also had a great fall, last week, on a wet floor in the Kochin Airport; she fractured her ulna and, as a result, she and my dad have decided to scuttle the final week of their India trip and fly home tomorrow night. She will see her doc at Special Surgery on Thursday and have the operation (a small one and not difficult, but probably requiring general anesthesia) on Friday. Blog at WordPress.com.

But really, it was SO competitive. When my interview came, I made the fundamental mistake of admitting I was looking at a few different career paths and really wasn’t sure, which was the exact thing they told us at the start to walk right out the door if we felt. Okay, now I can concentrate on my Teaching Fellows interview tomorrow.

I am too talented to be unemployed, but nonetheless currently am. I am a man of many passions: writing, performing and visual arts, world culture and politics, food and beverages, gardening. With a respect-filled fear and awe of science and math. And, to a certain degree, of growing up. Because ginger itself awakens the senses, and its history and myriad applications awaken my curiosity. Lesson 6: Clicking, or not so much. I've met three good friends while dating online in New York. There was actually some chemistry with all of them, but I'm 38 and at this point I have a pretty solid set of likes and dislikes. So as a result, I do the honorable thing when I'm not interested in things going further, and say so. This means I pass up a lot of sex. Or the RDA, I guess.
