“Happiness is a Warm _________” | I've Been a Stranger

https://ivebeenastranger.wordpress.com/2010/12/26/“happiness-is-a-warm-_________”

I've Been a Stranger. Tales from a sojourn in a strange land. December 26, 2010. Happiness is a Warm. There is really only one thing that comes to mind right now about how I’m adjusting to Seoul: it is COLD. Really cold. Colder than I could have imagined. This past week was in the 40s until Friday when it took the plunge to 15 F. That was not even counting the wind chill. Saturday was in the teens and there were flurries today. Things I have done to survive in this frigid place:. So glad to know you&#821...

Packing vs. the World | I've Been a Stranger

I've Been a Stranger. Tales from a sojourn in a strange land. December 16, 2010. Packing vs. the World. Um….not really. No, not at all. In fact, this blog post is part of a long string of planned distractions aimed at keeping me away from putting things in my suitcase. I don’t really know why I am persistently putting this off. I’ve never like packing, though I love pretty much all other aspects of traveling, including the long airplane rides. Random Stuff from the Journey ». Ack, I agree…packing i...

Random Stuff from the Journey | I've Been a Stranger

https://ivebeenastranger.wordpress.com/2010/12/25/random-stuff-from-the-journey

I've Been a Stranger. Tales from a sojourn in a strange land. December 25, 2010. Random Stuff from the Journey. My mom and I spent my last night in America packing, weighing, and repacking my suitcase. It seems 23 kilograms is really not enough for what I’m trying to pull off here. The vacuum sealed bags are pretty cool, although I had trouble with the ones that don’t require an actual vacuum cleaner to remove the air. About Me | I've Been a Stranger

https://ivebeenastranger.wordpress.com/about

I've Been a Stranger. Tales from a sojourn in a strange land. I love foreign countries, spicy food, late nights, piano, books, missions, and life (unless you wake me up too early). I recently graduated with degrees in music and print journalism from Southern Adventist University. What will I do with that, you ask? Answer: Expect a life full of variety, bursting with spontaneity, and probably fraught with antagonistic rent collectors. Create a free website or blog at WordPress.com.

Writing to Serve: March 2011

http://writingtoserve.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

My year as a student missionary. Highlights of my fourth last week in Tanzania:. While at the school we helped in the 'babies' classroom and then after lunch we taught action songs to the students in the Standard 3-5 classroom before returning to the little kids to sing some more in their religion class. I would have died. It was also fun to watch Darren's driver Gabo who laughed almost the whole time Darren was up front. Mama Africa final dance. I had so much fun with the kids at Cradle every evening af...

Writing to Serve: Weekend in Tanga

http://writingtoserve.blogspot.com/2011/04/weekend-in-tanga.html

My year as a student missionary. This weekend in Tanga was interesting, to say the least. But since it was ADRA TZ's first collaboration with the Tanzania Albino Society, there were bound to be some bumps and hurdles to deal with. All in all, it went pretty good. Here's the bulleted version of the trip. Yona has very varied and valuable skills. My room (opposite the one with the name) had a balcony overlooking the harbour :). Simon, Charles and I walked to downtown after eating, found an imported-goods g...

Writing to Serve: TZ talk with Tara

http://writingtoserve.blogspot.com/2011/07/tz-talk-with-tara.html

My year as a student missionary. TZ talk with Tara. So what are you up to this summer? I followed her into the cubicle and lowered myself into the dentist chair. "Well, I'm working until August and then I'm getting married and leaving town." I was in for my routine dental checkup and teeth cleaning. My normal hygienist was away on holidays, so another one, Tara, took her place. "Oh, how exciting! July 5, 2011 at 7:18 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Cradle of Love Baby Home. My year as a student missionary. Are you getting confused with all the names I toss into my blog? Well wonder no more! Here's a cast of characters for you to examine anytime you're being bombarded with too many names. (Note: Names I don't know how to spell have been spelled as phonetically as I can manage.). My year as a student missionary. I'm leaving, heading to the airport and away from Tanzania. I have more blogs to post but I've ran out of time so I hope you still check back on this blog in the next few weeks. I'll post the blogs when I'm back. Goodbye Tanzania, CoL babies and my wonderful new friends who have become extended family members! I love you all! I asked. "I think there's an earthquake." They both shook their heads. "An earthquake? I grabbed the table and Staci just sorta laughed at me. Who h...

Writing to Serve: Anecdotes

http://writingtoserve.blogspot.com/p/tanzania-info.html

My year as a student missionary. Funny stories from life in Tanzania. Oct 24 - While eating at Tanz-Hands, a local cafe, with three CoL volunteers. Our waitress approached us carrying two banana milkshakes on a wooden tray. As she set the tray down on the table she happily informed us, "Brenda's dead." The four of us looked at each other confused. Why was she telling us about a person we didn't know? And why did she sound so happy about the sad news she had just delivered? Oct 20 - Ann-Marie's mishearing.
