February 4, 2012, 4:28 pm. If you like a little spice, you will love this giardinara. It is great on pizza, sandwiches, or tossed with pasta and a little olive oil. I also add it to salsa if I don’t have fresh jalapeños on hand. Makes a lovely gift as well. Fresh veggies waiting to be processed. 8 cups white vinegar. 2/3 cup pickling salt (you must use pickling salt NOT regular table salt which will make your product cloudy). Blog at WordPress.com. August 31, 2009, 2:30 am. Tossed in olive oil and roasted in the oven till crisp, this kale bears no resemblance to it’s raw beginnings. In fact, it makes an excellent snack, a possible alternative to a bowl of popcorn! 1 bunch fresh kale (8-10 stalks). 2-3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil. 1/4 tsp kosher or sea salt. I am a firm believer in the convenience and good taste of canned beans). 1/4 cup sesame tahini. 1 clove fresh garlic, skin removed and crushed. Green Bean and Heirloom Tomato Salad. February 7, 2010, 4:51 pm. I was thinking about this lovely salad here in the middle of winter. Heirloom tomatoes are one of those fleeting summer delights that always seem to go away too quickly. In an effort to promote eating seasonally and locally, I would only recommend this salad when the tomatoes are available. For the rest of the year their sweet, fragrant juiciness will just have to be a fond food memory. Juice of 1/2 lemon. 1 tsp balsamic vinegar.
