la vie française: Reality
http://kendevine1952.blogspot.com/2013/02/reality.html
Adjusting to French life in rural Brittany. Friday, February 22, 2013. As it appears to be common knowledge now, I thought I'd offer this post of confirmation. The photo says it all. We are almost homeless! Thankfully, we are about to have a Kirsty and Phil experience, courtesy of Chris and Juli, so perhaps all is not lost. The house took just over a week to sell, and hopefully it will all be tied up very soon, as the buyer's survey seems to have not thrown up any problems. We had a great time in Sunderl...

Adjusting to French life in rural Brittany. Monday, June 29, 2015. I think we've just about recovered from the weekend. It was past midnight when we left the Fete de la Musique in Billio, and it was way past midnight when we left Martin and Colette's barbecue on Saturday. There was rock, punk, folk, traditional and contemporary, choirs and plenty of dancing in Billio. You can see how much hard work it is to operate these things. Even their feet were attached. Saturday evening was the barbecue. Natalie ru...

Adjusting to French life in rural Brittany. Sunday, August 30, 2015. THREE first time experiences. I didn't have a nightmare last night, but I woke up THREE times because of a stupid dream that just wouldn't go away. It's the first time it's ever happened to me. Fortunately, I managed to have a snooze in the recliner outside in the warmth this afternoon, so I'm not all that tired. All my own work. The pork steak had garlic and a touch of black pepper cooked with it. Really enjoyed it. Loved t...The third...
la vie française: Relaxing day
http://kendevine1952.blogspot.com/2015/07/relaxing-day.html
Adjusting to French life in rural Brittany. Saturday, July 25, 2015. Today we cut the grass, worked on the bread oven, played games, spent some time in Yvon's woods, put the tent up, watched the Tour de France and generally chilled. My camera was dead so these are from my iPad. Do you think she's pleased? It turned into a flying fish when she threw it back in. Harriet ate most of the bread meant for the fish. Quite a pleasant day really. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Roos ...
la vie française: Monday and part of today
http://kendevine1952.blogspot.com/2015/08/monday-and-part-of-today.html
Adjusting to French life in rural Brittany. Tuesday, August 04, 2015. Monday and part of today. There were seventeen in the house. Now there are fourteen. John measuring up the last two purlins. Asher wondering what's going on. Hannah wondering what's going on. Cutting the stone for the purlins. He's in there somewhere. Happy birthday Ann. I think she's making a wish right now. Another point of view. John senior giving a helping hand. It's been good having him around. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Brittany Renovation Project: July 2011
http://destinationbrittany.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Saturday, July 30, 2011. I'm exhausted but satisfied at achieving the below tasks. Strimming the perimeter grounds. David had already cut the grass so strimming was all that was left. The grass and verges are always the first to get attention. I wished I'd taken a photo of the weeds before starting. Sanding beams in the breakfast room. You'll probably catch sight of these in a later photograph. Removing the stone circle from the back garden and defining the circle ready to begin building properly. 9 Addi...

Brittany Renovation Project: February 2010
http://destinationbrittany.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Thursday, February 11, 2010. I ran upstairs and was sick when I got home on Saturday the 15 November 2003. I'd just got back from helping Jon plasterboard his ceiling and walls. It wasn't sudden.I felt ill as soon as I arrived there. I stayed in bed the next day (Sunday) and In the evening Bev drove me to the Flinns to sleep over ready for the drive to Portsmouth. The hope was that I'd improve but I got progressively worse and feared I'd have to pull out of the visit altogether. I mention this because we...

Brittany Renovation Project: Now you see them...now you don't!
http://destinationbrittany.blogspot.com/2011/12/now-you-see-themnow-you-dont.html
Tuesday, December 27, 2011. Now you see them.now you don't! Martin emailed me yesterday (Boxing Day) to let us know what the winds have done. Our tree protected corner by the entrance to our back garden where I was going to build my posh storage shed/summer house and art studio. The same corner from the lane. Aren't I glad I didn't build my posh shed-come-summer house and art studio there. Thankfully, Martin informed us that everything else is fine.house, telephone wires and outbuildings.

Brittany Renovation Project: April 2010
http://destinationbrittany.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Friday, April 16, 2010. Jon drove us to Stanstead @ 4:45 am on Sunday 29th August 2004 and we jumped on the flight to Dinard where David was waiting to pick us up. On the way to Bel-Air we stopped off at some Australian friends of David and Eileen who gave us a grand tour of the place they are renovating in Josselin. In terms of work, not a lot was recorded other than.repairing the ascot flu, the sides of the big dormer and the bedroom studding. In reality, I wouldn't have stopped. As it is now. This was...

Brittany Renovation Project: January 2011
http://destinationbrittany.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Saturday, January 1, 2011. Still in love with the idea. I'm thinking about France at the moment and what it might be like to permanently stay in the place we've been renovating the past seven years. I read about people who have made the transition and have later regretted it. I've wondered about why they might have regretted it. I've considered if their regrets might possibly apply to me. Yes, the dream is still burning bright. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Brittany Renovation Project: March 2010
http://destinationbrittany.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 2, 2010. Clearing the ground and discovering features. Wherever I was living on Friday the 13th Feb. 2004, I was concreting a floor and painting a hallway (so says my diary). In the evening I stayed at the Flinns ready for a 5:00am drive to Portsmouth. It was the year the caravan came with us and in the car was David, Eileen and Robin. We made good time but the ferry was delayed by two and a half hours. We spent the time chatting to people in the queue and machine-gun toting policemen.

Brittany Renovation Project: October 2012
http://destinationbrittany.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Wednesday, October 3, 2012. December 2014 update. The links to the various projects didn't work. I think I'm going to have to just post updates as they happen here instead of my other blog. Watch this space for the bread oven renovation in our front garden. I've published a small book with all the photos of the renovation of the property. I've just got to figure out how to get it to this site so you can view it. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. A Taste of Garlic.

Adjusting to French life in rural Brittany. Thursday, March 17, 2016. Bringing my journal up to date. 19th February to present is almost a month. Perhaps I should dance through and recap on just the main bits. Friday the 19th was a good night as I recall. Yes, that's Bev bottom left, lost in a sea of sound. She counted how many fiddle players and guitarists and banjo players and other weird instruments were in the room. They were even in the other room. All done, now! No new molehills for two weeks!
KEN DEVINE ART BLOG
KEN DEVINE ART BLOG. My auction or buy now paintings. Saturday, February 11, 2017. I painted this scene in 2012 entitled Impressions of Paris but it came out very dull. I've overpainted it with more colour and it now has a new title to match the new mood. There is a part of me that wants to run rampant with colour with no regard for detail. I'm going to have to give in at some point and see where it leads. 6x6 inches. Oil on Board. Click here to buy now, bid in my auction or view in detail. Continuing the...
