The Cruise: February 2008

http://kfranza.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html

Friday, February 29, 2008. This morning we planned to hike up Table Mountain (meaning Jim was going to hike and I was going to take the cablecar up), but the excursion was canceled as the mountain was socked in with dense fog and it was too windy to run the cablecars safely. As an alternate, we were offered a hike up Lion's Head, which, although right next to Table Mountain, had no fog and no wind. Famous last words…. Jim and I were the only non-students (read old folks) on this trip. The rest of us (yes...

The Cruise: Postcard from Puntarenas, Costa Rica

http://kfranza.blogspot.com/2008/05/postcard-from-puntarenas-costa-rica.html

Monday, May 5, 2008. Postcard from Puntarenas, Costa Rica. May 3, 2008. Days at sea since Honolulu, and the ship has been a whirlwind of term papers, projects, study sessions and final exams. The weather has been getting warmer, and 700 girls have been sunning themselves out on deck in little bikinis so their tans will look really good when they get home! The school semester is now officially over, and we docked this morning in Puntarenas, for our last shore excursion. The mountains were green, lush and ...

The Cruise: January 2008

http://kfranza.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html

Sunday, January 27, 2008. Postcard from San Juan, Puerto Rico. This morning everyone got up at dawn to watch the sun rise as we. Approached San Juan. There is a huge old fort, El Morro, on the. Promontory that greets us as we navigate into the harbor. Jim mentioned to the Dean about my dental issue (my cap popped off. Yesterday), and the Dean called his daughter Elsa, who lives here in. San Juan, to make an appointment with their dentist! Gary drove us into the city to the dentist's office, waited with us.

The Cruise: On Our Way to Miami

http://kfranza.blogspot.com/2008/05/on-our-way-to-miami.html

Saturday, May 10, 2008. On Our Way to Miami. May 6, 2008. A Man, a Plan, a Canal, Panama! Today we crossed from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic via one of civilization's engineering marvels. We arrived at the first lock, called Mira Flores, at sunup this morning. The canal cuts right through a mountain, and we can see the bisected mountain on either side of our ship. As we approach the first lock, it doesn't look like the Explorer will fit – but we have several feet of clearance on each side. We cleare...

Karen and Jim's Wild West Adventure 2013. Crossing a bunch of stuff off our Bucket List. Sedona, parte dos. September 16, 2013. Have I mentioned how much I love Jim? This man gave up a day of backpacking and camping and rearranged our itinerary so I could have another chance to take a balloon ride in Sedona! The first balloon company we had originally booked with was sold out, but luckily, the second company we called had an opening for two for tomorrow. Many Tribes, Heading South. Karen and Jim's Wild West Adventure 2013. Crossing a bunch of stuff off our Bucket List. September 13, 2013. Well, here we are! After a series of quiet adventures, we’ve landed in an international Mecca for hikers, bikers, and photographers, cheek to jowl with 13 thousand of our closest friends (daily attendance). Within five minutes, I hear German, Japanese, French, Australian, and a bunch of languages I can’t discern. It feels like Disneyland, without the mouse. We got our kicks on Route 66. You are co...

Karen and Jim's Wild West Adventure 2013. Crossing a bunch of stuff off our Bucket List. Many Tribes, Heading South. September 15, 2013. For our last day at the Canyon, we got out early to see the sunrise, and were treated to a spectacular one. We walked the Rim in the opposite direction from yesterday’s walk, until it was time to check out of our lodge. Now it’s time to make our way back south, to catch our return flight out of Phoenix on Tuesday. Sedona, parte dos →. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Semeste...

Karen and Jim's Wild West Adventure 2013. Crossing a bunch of stuff off our Bucket List. Sedona, parte tres – the best part! September 16, 2013. Today’s the day! We were up before the sun, and waiting for Northern Light Balloon Expeditions to pick us up at 5:45am. There were six people for our balloon, named Puma, plus our pilot, Daniel, and three other balloons, also holding six passengers each. The balloon envelopes were rolled out, then filled with air. We got to see the sunrise from the air. You are ...

Friday, March 26, 2010. Cotton Candy and Sun Shine. Pony tails and Soffee shorts . Singing “Opps I did it again”. At the top of our lungs. Freaking out when we can finally see the Farris wheel. We’re so close the butterflies. In my stomach fluttered to my throat. About to bust out. Park next to uncle Brain and aunt Jen. Impatiently waiting in line at the ticket booth. Neon pink wrist band slapped on my arm. Soar through the air. Twirl around and around. Every ride is a rush. Sticky, cotton stained fingers.
