The weather in Shighatini has suddenly changed, just slightly. Whereas before most days started off cloudy and were often slightly cool, the mornings have become warm and bright, at least on my porch. Harrison, the local youth group leader whom I have been working with tells me we will have sun from now on. I'd like to interview patients at the clinic who have specifically been diagnosed with malaria, to see if there's any difference between the general population and those who are actively infected.

I bless the rains down in Africa. So, I've left Africa. It's strange now, but I found a good way to say goodbye. I had hiked to the top of the first plateau of Stellenbosch Mountain a couple times, but the elusive second (and third, and fourth, and who knows how many there really were) plateaus had been looming over me like a challenge for the past four months. Now that I've been home just over three weeks, this is the official last blog post of this chapter of my travels. I feel like I need one last chance to sum it up, for return culture shock is as much a part of the experience as anything. I managed to buy tea (American money! And I'm convinced that someone is going to steal my bike, even with the lock on. Words with t's confuse me sometimes, because that letter doesn't really exist in the Midwest. Today has been my last day in Shighatini - tomorrow it's to Arusha briefly to visit the factory where they sell mosquito netting, then to the airport for my flight to Istanbul.
