Monday, 1 October 2012. A slightly different attraction this one as it's underground, cool and completely different to everything else. The cistern was discovered fairly recent, which I don't believe how and is an amazing array of pillars and small walkways over a large expanse of water. It costs about 10TL to enter and there is a rather tacky gift shop inside. I found myself spending so much time down here just because I found the silence calming. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Saturday, 6 October 2012. Unlike Istanbul which has some amazing historical buildings and more than enough to keep tourists happy, Ankara is more a working capital with little tourist attractions. Having nailed the parks in one day when I'd planned for two I was left with a spare day so I thought I'd explore the city to see what I could find. Saturday, 29 September 2012. Unlike Istanbul I found no problems at all with the taxi service here and I would recommend this for getting to the places that the metro doesn't reach. I'm guessing not many tourists means the scams haven't really taken hold here. An indicative cost was that it cost me 10TL from the Havas bus stop in Ulus to the hotel and 12TL from the Kecioren watefall to the hotel. Both equate to less than £5. Sunday, 7 October 2012. Being a seaside resort there's more historical stuff around Antalya than I thought there would be. Fortunately the hotel, once I'd found it, was close to the old town and marina so that's where I headed each night. This was my hotel, the Best Western Khan hotel. Monday, 1 October 2012. Kipa is Tesco's under a different name. I thought this might be due to "tesco" meaning something rude in Turkish but it wasn't the case. If they sold clothing here then they could use the strapline "stitched up like a kipa". I'm not sure how to interpret this sign. Is it a good thing or bad?
