Spanning Trees: An Interlude | Math For Fun

https://mathforfun.wordpress.com/2009/06/14/spanning-trees-an-interlude

The math we think about for fun. Spanning Trees: An Interlude. June 14, 2009. This isn’t the promised sequel to yesterday’s post, but rather a quick tangent about one of the ideas in that post. In order to show that every graph has a spanning tree, we used Zorn’s Lemma, which is one of many things equivalent to the notorious Axiom of Choice. The answer is yes. Slightly bumpy translation aside, the paper is quite readable and rather enjoyable. 183;Tags: graph theory. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Greasemonkey script | Math For Fun

https://mathforfun.wordpress.com/2009/06/15/greasemonkey-script

The math we think about for fun. June 15, 2009. I find it slightly annoying that wordpress requires you to type $. Latex foo$ instead of $foo$ to use TeX, so I wrote a Greasemonkey script. To add a button which automatically converts straight TeX into the wordpress format. Right now it only works on the “new post” page; I haven’t bothered trying to make it work in comments yet. In order to type literal dollar signs, you now type $ like you would in TeX. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.

The math we think about for fun. Regular expressions, nonregular languages. June 15, 2009. A few days ago I mentioned in conversation that regular expressions (in the sense of computer programming) can recognize languages that are not regular (in the sense of formal language theory), but didn’t give a counterexample. Here’s the straightforward one, from Wikipedia. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Fill in your details below or click an icon to log in:. Address never made public). You a...

The math we think about for fun. June 13, 2009. There are several ways to define tree. In graph theory. Here are a handful, all of which are equivalent (here “graph” takes the usual meaning of “simple graph”, with no self-loops or multi-edges):. A tree is a connected graph with no cycles,. A tree is a connected graph with. A tree is a graph such that for any pair. Of vertices, there exists a unique. A tree is a connected graph with the property that removing any edge disconnects the graph. Has a maximal ...

Math For Fun | the math we think about for fun

The math we think about for fun. December 16, 2009. Diagram chasing is tedious, but not conceptually difficult. That’s exactly the kind of task that computers are good at. Therefore, I want to write a computer program to at least construct proofs for given true minimal “diagram chasing” facts. I think this can be done because in proving things like the snake lemma or the five lemma, my steps were boringly methodical. Has this been done before? Will it be harder than I think? Math IQ | Math Homework Guide

Math IQ Math Homework Guide. Wednesday, March 20. Concept and Definition of Markup. So, basically it is nothing but part of the selling price. This is added to the cost price in order to find the selling price. This is done in order to get profit for the business. If markup is not added then no profit can be obtained. This is because the profit component is also included in the total price. The total price in this case is nothing but the selling price of the product. Once mark-up is calculated it...When ...

Math for Grownups – Math doesn't have to be your BFF, but you can get along in public

Math doesn't have to be your BFF, but you can get along in public. Math at Work Monday Gets Artsy. October 5, 2015. I’ve been interviewing people about how they use math in the work for at least three years. And that means I have a really nice archive of Q&As with fascinating people. And in looking at these interviews, I see that they fall into several categories. So over the next few months, I’ll roll out archives of these interviews. First up, the arteests!
