27 Months in Botswana With The Scharmers. Sunday, May 30, 2010. Khama: A Love Story. I came across this chapter in a book I was reading about an Australian Safari guide working in Botswana. He captures the true beauty of this country is a remarkable tale about Sir Seretse Khama. It was a great reminder of how lucky I am to be in such an amazing country in Africa. I hope you will agree. Khama: A Love Story. This created a storm that neither the young Seretse nor the London girl Ruth could have foreseen...

27 Months in Botswana With The Scharmers. Friday, January 22, 2010. Christmas and New Years Trip. By 8am we were in a 4x4 to Bovu Island to a lodge/resort called Jungle Junction. This island is right on the Zambezi River, one of the most hippo-, crocodile-, and tiger fish- infested rivers in the world. (we saw all 3 by the way! A guide paddled us to the island in a traditional dugout canoe called a Makoro, it was a little tippy but our guide had absolute confidence which assured us we were in good hands.

27 Months in Botswana With The Scharmers. Monday, December 21, 2009. Salajwe Girls MMA Camp. Please note that not all girls in Salajwe would fall in these categories I am mentioning]. That afternoon we were visited at home by several young girls. We played ladder ball with them (Lucas made himself from tree branches and rocks). Afterwards, we encouraged all the girls to come to our camp the next morning at 10. The next day we had 23 participants! While Lucas occupied the group with various games, I took ...

http://thescharmers.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
27 Months in Botswana With The Scharmers. Tuesday, May 10, 2011. Our little friend Kgosi turned eight years old on April 21, the week before Easter. Lucas and I offered to throw a birthday party for him and his friends. Kgosi lives with his grandmother who is a teacher at the primary school. Lucas and I passed out cake and watermelon and gave Kgosi a gift. He is a huge fan of match box cars. So we wrapped up five cars that had never been used and gave them to him as a birthday gift. The next day Lucas an...

27 Months in Botswana With The Scharmers: September 2010
http://thescharmers.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
27 Months in Botswana With The Scharmers. Saturday, September 25, 2010. This trip was fantastic and amazing but it was also splattered with disasters and misfortunes. All things worked out and it’s the good things that stick in our memory. We waited, and waited until I finally grabbed the only English-speaking guy on staff who ran after our plane but came back empty handed. There we were, two Americans in a foreign airport with the clothes on our backs, our passports, some cash and some odds and ends.

27 Months in Botswana With The Scharmers. Monday, November 29, 2010. Halloween and a Haircut. Costumes are hard to come by in Botswana. I decided to borrow some of Lucas’ clothes and go as boy. Cutting off my hair would be the perfect touch. Nothing fancy. Lucas basically took a pair of cutting scissors (brought from home) and hacked off a braided ponytail. I stuffed the braid in an envelope and am mailing it to Locks of Love. Lucas and Katie Scharmer. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Lucas and Katie Scharmer.

27 Months in Botswana With The Scharmers. Friday, August 27, 2010. Lucas and Katie Scharmer. Thanks once again for the box of goodies. It’s so great to be caught up on how things are going state-side. The beef sticks were delicious. The fruit snacks didn’t last very long either! Lucas looks great in the t shirts. And they couldn’t be more appropriate =) Q-tips are addicting; I didn’t bring nearly enough to Botswana. You guys are so thoughtful. Thanks so much for thinking of us. Lucas and Katie Scharmer.
