Matt Westwood began learning violin at Brighton Grammar School where he excelled as a soloist and orchestral violinist. Learning from John Quaine, he completed his A.Mus.A diploma at age 16 and upon completing Year 12 was accepted into The University of Melbourne’s Conservatorium of Music to study violin, where he studied under Işın Çakmakçıoğlu for a year.

A fun and happy piece I composed for violin and loop pedal, with a little poem to accompany it. I came up with this after strumming out the chord progression, and learning out to put my violin down an octave. Col legno ed elettroniche. The premiere of my compositions for violin duet electronics col legno ed elettroniche (or with wood and electronics) performed by Arun Patterson and myself at SMASH THE LOOKING GLASS in Tinning Street, Brunswick on 21 July 2013. The premiere performance of Bass Face for big band and electronics, performed by The University of Melbourne Big Band in Melba Hall at The Last Stand on 22 October 2013. Run to the Devil.
