Holidays for Expats – Misadventures with Michael

http://www.misadventureswithmichael.com/2016/11/25/holidays-for-expats

Explore where you are. November 25, 2016. Photo from ECCO Bologna. I also visited my friend Brianna in Dublin. Over Thanksgiving weekend. On my last night in the city, we went grocery shopping and went back to her apartment at Trinity to cook some of our favorite dishes from back home. We played a bad Christmas movie on Netflix in the background while cooking and then went for a walk along the river after dinner. (Not Quite) Tokyo Day 2: Yokohama and Kamakura – Misadventures with Michael

http://www.misadventureswithmichael.com/2017/01/12/not-quite-tokyo-day-2-yokohama-and-kamakura

Explore where you are. January 12, 2017. January 14, 2017. Not Quite) Tokyo Day 2: Yokohama and Kamakura. On my second day in Tokyo, I didn’t tour in Tokyo but instead headed to Yokohama. A half hour subway ride from Tokyo, Yokohama is the second biggest city in Japan and boasts some of its own interesting places to visit and a beautiful, new waterfront district. In Yokohama, I met up with my friend Yuri from Bowdoin and she took me around the city for the day. After the museum, we walked next door to Co...

Castles, Cranes, Curry: Some More of Kyoto – Misadventures with Michael

http://www.misadventureswithmichael.com/2016/11/30/castles-cranes-curry-some-more-of-kyoto

Explore where you are. November 30, 2016. Castles, Cranes, Curry: Some More of Kyoto. Aside from Kyoto’s temples, I also visited Nijo Castle, an Edo period castle with beautiful gardens and views of the city from above. I walked the grounds alongside Japanese classes on their school trip and Italian tourists. Katie and I also visited the Imperial Palace after our morning at Kinkakuji. Like Nijo Castle, the palace is full of peaceful gardens and striking architecture. For another side of nightlife in Kyot...

Christmas Countdown – Misadventures with Michael

http://www.misadventureswithmichael.com/2016/12/19/christmas-countdown

Explore where you are. December 19, 2016. My suitcase is bulging with books I’ve read and Christmas presents I will give, I’ve cleaned my apartment, and I’m trying to get rid of all the food in my fridge. I’m coming back to the States on Friday for Christmas and have been cramming a lot in before leaving between preparing for the trip home and exploring Hokkaido a bit more. Last weekend, I went into Asahikawa again to see. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. To wrap up the weekend, I hung out at Pea...

Friday Five: Business Trip Exploration – Misadventures with Michael

http://www.misadventureswithmichael.com/2016/12/16/friday-five-business-trip-exploration

Explore where you are. December 16, 2016. December 16, 2016. Friday Five: Business Trip Exploration. Before Christmas. Here are some highlights. 2) Maruyama Park–. But it felt like a snow festival in its own right. 3) German Market and Illuminations–. 4) Sombrero Mexicano–. The food is a little expensive and portions are small in typical Japanese fashion, but the salsa and enchiladas were well-seasoned, although not too spicy (also in typical Japanese fashion) and flavorful. 5) Beer Inn–. I had no idea J...

London: The Viktor Wynd Museum of Curiosities | Diverting Journeys

https://divertingjourneys.wordpress.com/2015/08/05/london-the-viktor-wynd-museum-of-curiosities

A travelogue of museums, historic homes, and other curious destinations. Places I’d like to Visit. London: The Viktor Wynd Museum of Curiosities. This is my 200th post. Woo-hoo? And half a mile away from Bethnal Green, which is where I walked up from (seriously, why is the tube so bloody scarce in East London? In fact, he appears to be downright obsessed with celebrity fluids (emissions? I don’t know, for as small as this museum was, there was something kind of trashy and fabulous about it (in a Li...

Misadventures While Moving

True Tales from the Moving Trenches. Monday, January 27, 2014. First Move: I’m so excited! I was about to shake off the dust of my small Ohio town and head out to see the world! I was so excited! 160; I’d just graduated from college, become engaged to a Naval officer, and we were leaving Ohio to start our lives in the exotic (and warm! An experiment in nomadic living. Temple time in Ubud. October 21, 2014. Disclaimer: I am by NO means an expert on the local Balinese-Hindu culture, but I’ll do my best to give uneducated and limited explanation. The local temple, Gunung Lebah, completed a multi-million dollar renovation and a huge ceremony was performed under the full moon on October 8. There have been 20 days of ceremonies this …. Misadventures with Money

Field notes from my random financial journeys, as I try nearly everything I can think of, in order to earn some extra scratch. There was an error in this gadget. Saturday, October 16, 2010. If you could wake up as anyone tomorrow, who would it be? Secondly, this is a poor question for me to answer because I simply don't want to be anyone but me. Being me is enough of an adventure without having to experience someone else's adventure as well. Right? An investment in knowledge. I went on to write for my co...

Taking a quick selfie on my first trip to the ocean. I finally hit the saltwater in my kayak! That made life a lot easier. A kayak cart of some sort is absolutely essential. Besides the PVC kayak cart, I'm glad I brought a hat, sunglasses, and a Hoo Rag. They kept my head and neck protected from the sun without having to use sunscreen. Bringing a waterproof phone case was awesome too. I got a few pictures as well as a blurry video of dolphins. Why The Pescador 12 is the Best Bang for the Buck. I don't co...
