Nikki in Kampala, Uganda. Wednesday, July 13, 2011. I’ll try to write before I leave about the trip and be sure to check out the absurd number of pictures we will upload . By this point he was charging me 3000 for a 2000 ride and had tried to charge me 5000. I was happy with the situation and walked away knowing I had still been overcharged but not wanting to escalate matters further. Nikki in Kampala, Uganda: June 10th-15th

http://www.nikkiinkampala.blogspot.com/2011/06/june-10th-15th.html

Nikki in Kampala, Uganda. Tuesday, June 14, 2011. June 10th – 14. We got back and it was still raining. We were cold, wet, and exhausted and accidentally took the wrong direction, walking needlessly in the rain. By the time we got back home our only consolation was that we had running water and electricity. I managed to change into dry clothes then slept for a few hours. It was a great day but it wore me out. Wednesday we are getting new passport photos taken because we heard back from the UNCST and we h...

Nikki in Kampala, Uganda. Wednesday, June 22, 2011. I'm here and I like it. Good to know. Its funny how if you get two things accomplished in a day here, it is a good day, yet when I think about all that has happened since my last blog there is too much to write about. I think this blog will be less a chronology and more about the things I don’t want to forget or that have made me laugh. Think of all the tacky pattern and seasonal colors we’re missing out on. Nikki in Kampala, Uganda. Tuesday, May 31, 2011. End of Week 1 in Kampala. May 29-31, Sunday-Tuesday 2011. I finally made it into the city yesterday and today. I had ventured to the two local super markets before, but those where only a few minutes walk away. 8221; (which basically means white person) or “Hallo. Nikki in Kampala, Uganda. Thursday, June 9, 2011. It’s been a crazy week or so and I finally feel as though I’m getting my bearings. They tasted like a smoky earthy bacon-y spice. When we had the grasshoppers they tasted alright, but were really crunchy and I didn’t appreciate them as much as Ginger, who was dipping them in ketchup like French fries saying they tasted like soft shell crab. 8221; All you can do is shake your head and smile. Meagan in Uganda 2010-2011: July 1st to July 13th

http://meaganinuganda.blogspot.com/2011/07/july-1st-to-july-13th.html

Meagan in Uganda 2010-2011. Wednesday, July 13, 2011. July 1st to July 13th. Today I am really tired. We worked on writing all day and making plans about our trip to the west. We hope to meet Mary’s family when we go. So excited! Today was a good day. We also met Seith, our driver for our trip west. He helped us come up with a plan and decide on our budget and what we want to do when we get there. Things are falling into place right at the end how they always do. Somehow. Ginger Goes to Uganda! Tracing my experiences while I'm in Uganda so that everyone can follow. Sunday, May 30, 2010. Sorry Everyone, i can't get the computer to read my flash, so an update will have to wait until Tuesday. Friday, May 28, 2010. Starting to get the ball rolling. After dinner Dr. Muhumuza’s brother, Andrew came by for a while. It was nice to catch up with him. Tomorrow we will see another one of the friends that I made last summer. =) Starting to have fun and relax. It was dark by the time ...

Ginger Goes to Uganda! Tracing my experiences while I'm in Uganda so that everyone can follow. Thursday, June 23, 2011. Doing some last minute things before we leave tomorrow. We won’t be back until Tuesday evening, which means that we’ll be out of touch till Wednesday or so. I’m really excited! Especially for Gulu. We are supposed to get there on Sunday, which I hope will give us time to see the city and maybe the surrounding areas before we meet with mentors and schools. In my mind I keep thinking, &#8...

Meagan in Uganda 2010-2011. Sunday, June 12, 2011. I am definitely sick. It feels like a sinus infection and I have the worst headache ever. The only difference between this and a normal sinus infection that I’ve had is that I’m exhausted and slept almost all day. Ginger and Nicole were really sweet and brought me some Sudafed from the store. I sound like a frog. Yay for Z packs! 8221; which means “yes please! 8221; it was hilarious. Today we went to Kyngera and I had a great time there last year, so I w...

http://meaganinuganda.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Meagan in Uganda 2010-2011. Thursday, July 29, 2010. Today we tried hard to find out any news about the bombings. Unfortunately, there was a problem with our internet so we had to rely on newspapers (most of which only showed graphic photographs of the deceased) and local news channels on the television. It was difficult to find any information, because people were still being treated at the hospital and officials were really still trying to figure out what happened and why. Nothing from the UNCST or Pre...

Ginger Goes to Uganda! Tracing my experiences while I'm in Uganda so that everyone can follow. Tuesday, June 28, 2011. Just getting ready for the week and the mentor meeting on Friday. Got our approval from the UNCST. It feels like a dream. Also we should have the pictures up soon, so be on the look out. Cheers! The meeting went well, and it seems like they might be interested in partnering with SAS in the future. We continued on our way to Gulu via Masindi eating mangoes like apples and stopping to ...

http://meaganinuganda.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

Meagan in Uganda 2010-2011. Saturday, April 10, 2010. Preparing for our trip. I am preparing to leave for my research trip to Uganda! As my practicum project for my Master's degree, I am conducting summer research there! So far, my research partner Ginger and I have been very lucky to recieve funding from private donations we acquired from fundraising, and also from the International Study Abroad Office. We feel very fortunate, and hopefully we will not have to pay much out-of-pocket for this trip.

Meagan in Uganda 2010-2011. Tuesday, August 3, 2010. July 29th through August 3rd. Afterwards, we went and bought an “eggroll.” If you remember, about a month ago we realized that eggrolls are an entirely different substance here. See the pictures to appreciate the initial hilarity of this discovery. 8221; and pulling on your hands trying to sell you things. http://meaganinuganda.blogspot.com/2011/06/126-to-226.html

Meagan in Uganda 2010-2011. Thursday, June 23, 2011. We decided to walk home. Later on, we met our friend Pharouk at a local hang out nearby. We also got an email from the UNCST today saying that we could resubmit our research proposal from last summer. Apparently it’s been misplaced. For now, we have temporary approval to begin our data collection, but I’m not really sure what that means exactly. We’re not in Russia! 8221; His accent was really very different from Ugandans and I especially liked the way...
