New perspectives and being thankful | nomad in rifle

https://nomadinrifle.wordpress.com/2012/11/07/new-perspectives-and-being-thankful

Back in denver, trying to adjust to a climbing life not on the road. November 7, 2012. New perspectives and being thankful. I know thanksgiving is still several weeks away, but I have a lot to be thankful for. Last Friday, while riding my bike home in capitol hill, a car opened its door at the very instant I was passing it. I launched! You always hear that peoples lives flash before their eyes before they die, or think they’re going to die. That’s horse shit! I was bummed out and slipped into a funk.

Back in denver, trying to adjust to a climbing life not on the road. July 29, 2012. First time back in rifle since the very beginning of September. I haven’t been wanting to come to grips with the unfortunate reality of being a weekend warrior. But I couldn’t stay away any longer. July 23, 2012. July 10, 2012. Looking back at the summer of george, now 1 year removed. June 16, 2012. Blog stats – who knew. Posted in rest day. June 13, 2012. On my way to being back in the game! June 9, 2012. April 23, 2012.

Back in denver, trying to adjust to a climbing life not on the road. My name is jamie. i am a mediocre climber. i started this blog in may or june of 2011, in anticipation of moving to rifle, co for 3 months, living in my car, and climbing. I wanted to document my little journey, no matter how mundane it was going to be or may have been. Now i use this forum to document my climbing life here in the front range, to rant and rave about things, and to post pretty pictures from time to time. Blog at WordPres...

Back in denver, trying to adjust to a climbing life not on the road. November 19, 2014. Failure with a capital F. 8216; kinky reggae. I do remember the very first time I got on it. I couldn’t do a single move in the crux. Not one. But for some reason I was drawn to this climb. The style of climbing suited me: steep/overhung power climbing with big moves between okay holds. I wanted to invest the time because it was really fun. I decided to commit. Newer bolted routes in the canyon kept me busy. But t...

ROCK'n and JAM'n. Developing climbers and community. Journey vs. Destination and Whatnot. August 17, 2013. August 17, 2013. A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to summit Longs Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park. I have spent somewhere near 150 days bouldering in the Park and had never more than glimpsed the famed peak from the confines of the talus fields I enjoy so much. So under the cruel tutelage. Of my co-workers/besties, I hauled myself up the Cables. While it was a good feeling to stand on top ...

ROCK'n and JAM'n. Developing climbers and community. Managing your expectations on a climbing trip (or how to cope with the fact that you’re not going to send the one climb that you were really psyched to try to send). October 26, 2013. Should you sample more climbs at a lower grade and get more volume in? These are, no doubt, the burning questions in your mind right now. One thing working in your favor is that while on a trip, you are usually just climbing. you aren’t bogged down with the minu...I have ...

No matter what you were told by your first grade teacher, books are always judged by their cover. Sure, that initial judgement is subject to change when more information is gathered, but a first impression is still a very powerful thing. Exhibit A: the chalk bag. Exhibit B: the bare feet. Exhibit C: the bling. Exhibit D: the harness. RJ Member Interview: Travis Lester.

ROCK'n and JAM'n. Developing climbers and community. There’s No Way That’s 5.11. June 19, 2014. June 19, 2014. NattyGray here. I’m going into my 8th year as a routesetter at RJ, and this is the first time I’ve really sat down to discuss an issue regarding climbing grades. When I first started climbing I was a newbie. Than I do in my Evolvs. My current situation: I’m clearly a better runner these days than I am a climber. I conquered this boulder problem in 2006. So the next time you come off a route or b...

ROCK'n and JAM'n. Developing climbers and community. To Wobble or Not to Wobble? September 19, 2013. September 19, 2013. Throw a wobbler (phrase):. To get really angry. Have a tantrum. See also screaming fit, berserk, rage. Like baseball, skateboarding, and panning for gold, climbing involves a lot of failure and a healthy portion of pain and frustration; most of the time the bear eats you. Or two. ROCK'n and JAM'n. Developing climbers and community. RJ- How, and when were you introduced to climbing? Travis- I got introduced to climbing 3 years ago by a friend who moved back to Colorado (from NY) specifically to climb. RJ- Do you primarily climb on ropes, or spend most of your time bouldering? Travis- I try to spend my time equally between climbing on ropes and bouldering. However, if I had. To choose one over the other, I would choose bouldering because I love the simplicity of it. A transition or more? Friday, November 28, 2008. Article captures what every one of us is feeling. Have we been pushed to the brink? Have we pushed them to the brink? Should we strike back? Make innocents homeless like Uncle Sam did, so that we quench our thirst for revenge? Will this even be revenge? Or will it just be a battle with ourselves? Will an eye for an eye really make all of us go blind? Or will we be the only ones who end up with sore cheeks! Why should we be the only ones to suffer? Staggeri...
