Excerpt from First Book – Flight | On The Near North Side
https://onthenearnorthside.wordpress.com/2013/01/20/excerpt-from-first-book-flight
On The Near North Side. Excerpt from First Book – Flight. January 20, 2013. I’ve been working hard on writing a series of eBooks and zines for “On the Near North Side”. Here’s an excerpt from the first book. Tilly Jefferson was a small woman, barely 5 foot tall, but she was strong and clever and full of determination. Around town people said her cleverness came from the Indian blood that was in her. Her mother, who went by Mary, was a Cherokee who fell in love with her father, Glenn a slave. You are comm...
Historical Fiction Book Review: Yellow Crocus | On The Near North Side
https://onthenearnorthside.wordpress.com/2016/03/01/historical-fiction-book-review-yellow-crocus
On The Near North Side. Historical Fiction Book Review: Yellow Crocus. March 1, 2016. I recently felt the urge to read. Taking a hiatus from Instagram and Facebook has actually freed up some time. I have an Amazon Prime Membership and while browsing through the membership features I discovered that I can download free books with the Kindle Lender Library free trial. Searching through the available titles a photo on a cover caught my eye. I downloaded the book, eager to find out what the story was. Elizab...
An Epiphany | On The Near North Side
https://onthenearnorthside.wordpress.com/2012/11/17/hello-world
On The Near North Side. November 17, 2012. Photo credit: Birds in Omaha. For a long time, perhaps since the first time I felt inclined to pick up a pencil and begin to write a story in grade school, I’ve felt like there was a great story I was going to write. Something with power and force, with moral lessons and virtue. Something poignant, meant to enrich the life and understanding of the reader. I discovered that after listening and talking with my brother more, reading things that truly interested me,...

On The Near North Side. 1960s Race Riots in Omaha. May 1, 2013. A picture of a business along N 24th St near Lake St from absolutelyastronomy.com. In this post, I want to describe in brief what took place during the race riots of the 60s. I hope to write a more detailed post in the future. She loved in the Logan Fontanelle housing projects, which are now demolished.

Pieces of Elise's. A New Hobby – Cooking Good Food. Submit an Old Photo. May 1, 2013. I Love Old Photos. I went to check my email today, on a cold, wet, depressing day and found something that made me smile. It was an email letting me know a project I did for Anastasia Leng, the co-founder of Makeably. Was featured in a nice write up on Makeably’s front page. Made my day! See the article here. Photo from Anastasia of her grandmother and the drawing. Read more about that here. Cold and wet day. On The Near North Side | Revisiting History
On The Near North Side. May 22, 2013. I enjoy writing on The Write Practice, where writers can post their responses to prompts. This was mine from today: Tilly shooed the children into the house. She didn’t like the look of it out here. And she didn’t like what people were saying. Omaha’s atmosphere was becoming increasingly volatile as the summer wore on. …. Notable North Omahans: Preston Love. May 8, 2013. Excerpt from First Book – Flight. January 20, 2013. The Red Summer of 1919 and Will Brown. A blac...

Saturday, 23 January 2010. Moving on with cutouts. If you take the cut-out shape, here with parts of the actual motif removed to give a more complex shape, and draw it randomly into a more regular shape (shown here into a square, rectangle and circle) you can throw up other combinations of the motif. Also the negatives spaces between the motifs also create new shapes, all these could be used together as they are all 'related'. Thursday, 21 January 2010. More play with cutouts. Saturday, July 25, 2009. Just a Quickie :). Just a quick post to let everyone know that I have updated the sidebar section and added links to a bunch of new blogs. You can see them if you scroll all the way down. In addition to the usual knitting blogs, I've added several sewing and quilting blogs that I think you will find inspiring as well - even if you don't sew or quilt. The colorful photos alone are worth a look! Did you know that I also read History blogs? Labels: life the universe and everything.
On the Needles | Knitting isn't so hard… sometimes
Knitting isn't so hard… sometimes. I kind of didn’t think I ever would, but I’ve proved myself wrong! I finished the Papaya Sweater. It only took me six and a half months, but I did it! Now, before I show you the “finished” pictures, I want to show you this:. Play yarn chicken. So satisfying! Anyway, you want to see the finished sweater! It turned out really great! FYI, I’m writing this. Anyway, here she is in all her papaya-y glory:. I even love the big plain back- it ended up being a really flattering ...
