Life Could Be a Dream | The Writing Life
https://onthewritinglife.wordpress.com/2012/09/29/life-could-be-a-dream
On life and family, with a smattering of autism. September 29, 2012. Life Could Be a Dream. I’ve been quiet lately. Life is good, and sometimes, the voice is silent because it doesn’t need to speak – and because the speaker may be too busy to draw breath! O’s favorite song is “Life Could Be a Dream (Sh-Boom)” from the Cars soundtrack. When we get into the car, both kids ask for “Cars Music,” but O’s sweet little voice can be heard singing along as best as he can. Life could be a dream. Notify me of new c...

On life and family, with a smattering of autism. December 17, 2012. The Crushing Weight of Responsibility. On Friday, as news of the Connecticut school shootings unfurled, I walked back to a room full of seventh graders. Fresh-faced rabble-rousers, ready to watch the film version of the novel we’d just finished reading. They saw my face. And one asked, “Mrs. K, are you ok? How do you respond to that? I told them honestly that I wasn’t. They’ll have to get by me first. This is our first task – carin...

On life and family, with a smattering of autism. July 7, 2012. I’ve not always been afraid of flying. But the clouds…. One cannot see in clouds in a plane, and if you’re already panicked, the feeling of blindness is extra-terrifying. I feel that I’m suffocating, that I’m on a collision course for who knows what. I can’t tell if we’re going up or down. Every second is a minute, and every minute stretches into an eternity of fear so tangible that I can taste it. And those harbingers of doom below us? I rec...

Crazy in Paradise: July 2013
http://kmbnorris.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 10, 2013. Tripping in the great NW. Living in the great NW has brought challenges that require adaptation. Rather than sulk and cancel plans one must be resilient and press onward. As is evident from the following. I neglected to post about our spring break trip or really anything else during the "dark times" so this will be a catch up. Even the dog missed the snow. Those prints can't be a 12 yr old.I have a man child! Someone is 12 :/. Washington Park on Fidalgo Island. We stayed at Neha...

Wednesday, January 23, 2013. What the HECK am I doing with my life? Pre-move to the woods I had a plan. I was taking classes and gonna go back to school. I was juggling it all pretty well. I had a routine. (Wake, eat, get kids to school, workout, work part time from home, volunteer, study, read, visit goodwill, REPEAT). But then the life changed! The advice was valid but I felt like I was given a cake mix with no instructions on how to get it together. Find Someone to Trust":. I can't even find my pants&...

Friday, May 31, 2013. Little League of their own. There is something about watching children under the age of about 10 playing sports. These little beings are like mini perpetual motion machines, always going in a million directions at once and then BAM! The ball is hit and focus ensues making it necessary for every child on the field/court to pursue the ball or puck or whatever. Such is the case with Butch's team. The mighty River Dogs! So now that you have the background lets set the scene. The remaind...
Crazy in Paradise: June 2014
http://kmbnorris.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, June 21, 2014. Growing up is hard- Especially for Mom. In March, Clyde -AKA #1 son- competed in a state competition for the Technology Student Association. We promised him that if he won at state we would try to send him to Washington D.C. He did.So we did. Clyde is a very good young man. He is studious and smart. He is kind and conscientious. He is brilliant and industrious. He also has a great advisor in Mark Klune and I was certain he'd be fine. BUT He is 13. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Friday, December 28, 2012. So Christmas has come and it has gone and it was perfect! Now don't have a heart attack. Some of you may remember the post. Of infamy where I expressed my deep seeded issues with the holidays. Well moving far from family and having only the hubby's parents here was quite relaxing. We saw the sights and celebrated the birth of our Savior BUT we also just enjoyed each other. We talked and remembered. We got to know each other better and just appreciated each other. James Henry Ro...
She Thinks My Truck Is Sexy: The Happiest Place on Earth!
http://cory-marisa.blogspot.com/2013/09/the-happiest-place-on-earth.html
She Thinks My Truck Is Sexy. Sunday, September 29, 2013. The Happiest Place on Earth! Max was such a little stinker during his two-year photo shoot. Isn't that the way it goes? You pay all that money and pick out cute outfits and then they have a meltdown. But we did get some good photos of this cute little guy! I love Disneyland. It is such a magical place. And while Cory does not share my enthusiasm, he was a good sport and let us spend a day at the happiest place on earth. I don't think he was really ...
Crazy in Paradise: April 2013

Monday, April 22, 2013. I find shopping for men to be exasperating. I never know what to get and it all seems so overwhelming that I often want to give up. After being with my husband for nearly 15 years (including the courtship) I have decided that if I am going to get him anything it better not be a waste of time or money since that is so precious to us. So when Christmas was upon us and the thought of leaving the house to shop in a new town was daunting I was at a complete loss. 365 Days of Crockpot.
Crazy in Paradise: Christmas in Disney World

Wednesday, January 29, 2014. Christmas in Disney World. For our Christmas we were afforded the extremely unique opportunity to meet with the Norris family in Orlando, Florida. It had been years since we had all been together and it was indeed a blessing to spend time together. We are extremely grateful to Mom and Dad Norris for this opportunity. We also visited Univeral Studios, Orlando and that was so fun too. The older kids had fun on the thrill rides and the little ones loved Suessville. Evert Pels an...

Sunday, May 18, 2014. Winter is hard for me living in WA. There is rain and spritz and grey and less than ten hours of daylight. If this lasted only three or four or five months, maybe I could cope but I don't. MarchWhen February hit my hubby made a decision. "We gotta get you to some sun! Unfortunately we couldn't go until April! Fortunately, I have a sister who agreed to take the kids and the dog while we were away. We snorkeled and visited Cabo Plumo National Marine Park in the Sea of Cortez. We s...

The Writing Life | On life and family, with a smattering of autism.
On life and family, with a smattering of autism. May 20, 2013. Two autistic children have died in the last week. They’ve gotten away from the safety of their homes and families, and they’ve drowned. I don’t think a single autism parent can hear or read those stories, and the hundreds like them, and not feel a spasm in their heart and gut. Judgement is easy, when you don’t understand. Did I mention he was obsessed with water? Did I mention that he rarely slept? We did all we knew to do to keep him safe.

On The "Wrong" Coast
On The "Wrong" Coast. A Carolina Girl's Adventures in Oregon. Our Monday in Glacier. At the end of the day Sunday, we piled into the car and drove the first portion of the Going to the Sun road - just as far as Rising Sun and walked to a waterfall. Dan did his best Captain Morgan. and I look wholly unimpressed with nature. Monday was the real deal - Going to the Sun road from beginning to end. A few highlights:. And the accompanying selfies:. And since Bekah was being Bekah,. Dan tried to be Bekah, too.
On The Wrong Foot
On The Wrong Foot. Tidbits from real life. Wednesday, June 11, 2014. Seeking Good Christian Wife and Mother. Quite often wives will put their husband’s on a pedestal. For myself, my husband was not only the provider but at one point throughout our marriage, a soldier too. What could be more honorable that that? How was I going to possibly compete with that as a stay-at-home mother of two to our “American hero”? How are we to be well rested and ready to take on another day? Monday, October 28, 2013. Even ...

Honest Bits
Yes, Mother. I can see you are flawed. You have not hidden it. That is your greatest gift to me.” - Alice Walker. Monday, April 18, 2011. Saturday, October 23, 2010. Finn is running and so much fun. His hugs are intentional, his kisses are sloppy and his tantrums can be powerful now. He is still rather quiet and plays very nicely. He loves sticks and Mardi Gras beads. What a wild ride this is! Friday, April 2, 2010. I imagine both of these huge developments could hinder his babbling. 8211; Mary Oliver.
