https://outrunningmydemons74.com/2017/01/03/in-too-deep-again
Outrunning my demons one step at a time. In too deep…again. January 3, 2017. In 2016, I kept track of how many miles I ran and biked over the year. I’m sure glad that is over! Keeping track of it all was a lot of work. I also did Jillian Michael’s video No More Trouble Zones 15 times. I am happy to report that my trouble zones are now gone. Thanks Jillian! This past year I achieved my goals of competing in one 5k, one 10k, a half marathon, a full marathon, and my first sprint triathlon. Looks like I will...

Outrunning my demons one step at a time. Proper middle school concert etiquette. December 27, 2016. This has been my 8th consecutive year of being a parent of at least one middle school child. Over the years I have learned a thing or two. This is my last year and I am ready to graduate! If you are a new parent of a middle schooler, pity! These years are the hardest with so many major changes for the first time. Hormones, growth spurts, dating, fitting in…just to name a few. I like to wear something nice&...

https://outrunningmydemons74.com/2016/12/28/boot-thief
Outrunning my demons one step at a time. December 28, 2016. I am going to take the kids to see my mother-in-law this weekend. The last time I visited, she accused me of stealing her boots. She said that someone, possibly my daughters or I, took her boots and left a pair that looked just like hers behind. I really didn’t know what to say. Why would I steal my dying mother-in-law’s boots? I admit, my relationship with my mother-in-law Martha has been rocky at times. I have learned over time to lower my exp...

Outrunning my demons one step at a time. January 2, 2017. Yesterday morning this was the sight in my kitchen. Seems like I can never have a proper party without trashing my house. I spend all day cleaning and cooking only to be faced with it again. I had a smashing party! My house was over run that night with teenagers. Ten teens to be exact and 3 other kids…One of the teen girls was very attractive and possibly single if that explains anything. Martha was happy to see us. We had a nice visit for a f...

The trials and tribulations of a middle aged, out of shape man as he reclaims his health. Monthly Archives: March 2015. What I Listen To While I’m Running. I need it to take my mind off the pain in my shins, to motivate me when my legs get all rubbery, to bribe my pavement weary feet with just one more song. I also use the playlist as a marker for how much further I have to run. Did I say, have to? I warm up with Lose Yourself. My actual run kicks off with Metallica’s Enter Sandman. And U2’s Vertico.

The trials and tribulations of a middle aged, out of shape man as he reclaims his health. When 1/10th Is A Lot. One tenth doesn’t seem like much at first blush, but that really depends on what you’re tenthing. I know, that’s not even a real word, tenthing, but it sounds kinda cool I must say. Back to the business at hand, one tenth of something. For instance 1/10th of an inch, woopty doo right? However, on the other hand a tenth of a million dollars? That’s something to write home about! The trials and tribulations of a middle aged, out of shape man as he reclaims his health. My Running Playlist for August. You may want to get drink before continuing…. See, back when I was a pup we didn’t have a portable music device. Walkmans didn’t come out for another few years. All I could do was hum that melody in my head as I ran to and from my playground/gym. Everything else on the list are holdovers from the past few months. Hey, if you use Spotify, look me up. I could use the company. You are co...

The trials and tribulations of a middle aged, out of shape man as he reclaims his health. Interval Running Is A Whole Lot Easier Than Waking Up At 5AM To Do Them Is. The afternoon temperature will be dropping soon and then I can put this waking up at five in the morning insanity to bed. I’m certainly not a fan if it, so luckily I dislike running in the heat more. Anyway yesterday morning I started something new and exciting, interval running! Oh my goodness I get chills just thinking about it! I averaged...

Outrunning my demons one step at a time. January 12, 2017. When I was 34, I played the part of Glinda. I was given someone’s old ill fitting wedding dress to wear. I didn’t like it. So I dug out my wedding dress from the back closet and broke the vacuum pack seal that would forever preserve it. It still fit. I was given a large magic wand, but the director did not like it although I did. The large wand was replaced with a smaller one and was held by some of the younger cast members. This past week I thre...

The most effective method I have found is the Karvonen Formula. Before you can begin to calculate your zones you need 2 other basic pieces of information, your Resting Heart Rate (RHR) and your Maximum Heart Rate (MHR). All zone calculations use these as a baseline. Has a pretty neat calculator you can use that wi...

OutRunning the Cloud » It would be funny if it wasn't happening to me
4 years ago in January, I found out I had breast cancer. I won’t retell the whole story, but it’s here. If you are curious or a new reader. I cannot believe everything that has happened in the last 4 years – I don’t even recognize my life anymore: the store is gone, my husband died, we moved…. none of it has to do with the cancer specifically, but it does seem like the dominoes haven’t stopped falling since that year. This post has no tag. I hope to go to less than 8 funerals. Less screens, more books.
