Raising Dad: Nine Eleven

http://www.raisingdad073001.blogspot.com/2010/06/nine-eleven.html

Memoir of a teenage caregiver. Tuesday, June 1, 2010. A few days had passed and my father had been placed into a step-down facility. Adjacent. To a nursing home and close to an acute care hospital, I was assured that not only was this a good place for my father to be, it was THE place for my father to be. Hospital, social workers, and liaison. Failed to mention was that this hospital seemed to only. But, I digress. Care for him on my own? Yeah, like that was even possible, let alone feasible. I'm sorry c...

Raising Dad: Shock

http://www.raisingdad073001.blogspot.com/2009/05/shock.html

Memoir of a teenage caregiver. Sunday, May 3, 2009. Life seemed to march at a slow, steady beat. The days dragged on and as each day passed and my father lay motionless, my hopes began to dwindle. I had no reason to believe today would be any different from the last few days, no more hopeful, no more enlightening. There had been nothing since my father's stunt a week ago. No more signs of improvement.no pulling of IVs, just a constant, depressing- nothing. I had a headache already. In hindsight I see how...

Raising Dad: Lifeless

http://www.raisingdad073001.blogspot.com/2009/02/lifeless.html

Memoir of a teenage caregiver. Thursday, February 19, 2009. After our discussion with the detective, I needed to be alone. I decided to step into the women's room on the surgical floor. Upon entering the bathroom, I headed for the far stall with my head hanging down, holding my breath. The bathroom was illuminated with florescent lights attached to an electric strip on the ceiling. It held two stalls. On opposite sides of a small, white porcelain sink. Patients to make sure they are aware. His usual patt...

Raising Dad: October 2009

Memoir of a teenage caregiver. Wednesday, October 21, 2009. Level I - No Response: Total Assistance. Complete absence of observable change in behavior when presented visual, auditory, tactile, proprioceptive, vestibular or painful stimuli. Level II - Generalized Response: Total Assistance. So, what number can we expect today? My aunt asks as she breezes past me into the hospital waiting room, taking a seat at one of the far chairs on the short end of the room, near the lockers. We begin to giggle. It is ...

Life as I know it...: January 2013

http://rachelagusti.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Monday, January 28, 2013. I have been wanting to experiment with photographing the boys in the fog for a while. I'm not sure I nailed it, I think its probably a combination of getting the right setting and also processing for the fog. I still love how the images turned out! Posted by Rachel A. Friday, January 18, 2013. The Boys go to the Library! I have been so bad about updating my blog! I'll try to go back and update it with the fall/winter of 2012. But for now, here's our trip to the library today!

Wednesday, February 27, 2013. For Caleb's birthday he got a lot of legos, and I realized it was time to teach HIM how to follow the directions and build these sets because right now he loves building them and that had meant me or tony building them. Anyway he barely needed any teaching, more of just encouragement and he took off. We've been having fun building all the lego sets he got for his birthday! Posted by Rachel A. Wednesday, February 20, 2013. We went to disney Feb 14-Feb 20. Ohanas - I didn't li...

Life as I know it...: Disney Autograph Books

http://rachelagusti.blogspot.com/2014/05/disney-autograph-books.html

Friday, May 30, 2014. Just wanted to give a quick review and post some pictures on our Autograph books in Action. The first ones I made with the boys. They helped me design the cover. They are simple $1 bin Photobooks you can buy at Target or where ever. After I bought these ones I saw that Target had even bigger ones that will hold more pictures/autographs. Alas, this is what we have, and the boys love them. The book was only $1 on amazon used (old library book) and after shipping it was $5. Here. Disne...

Life as I know it...: March 2013

http://rachelagusti.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, March 31, 2013. Inspired by our SuperHero themed photoshoot, I DIYed some artwork. These were made in Photoshop and then printed onto 10x10 Aluminum from one of my professional printing labs. I love how they turned out! Printing on Aluminum was a tad cheaper than canvas and more durable than just mounting prints to the wall without frames. Posted by Rachel A. Saturday, March 30, 2013. Monday, October 21, 2013. First trip to the Ocean! I decided to make a separate post since my last one was getting quite long! After we left Magic Kingdom oh around 11pm, we headed back to my sister's house, where we'd stay the next 2 days. We woke up that next day a little lagging but eventually we decided to head over to the ocean for a picnic lunch. The boys have never been to an ocean so we were excited to see how they liked it. But had so much fun. Posted by Rachel A. Orlando in the Fall! Honestly I...

Tuesday, April 30, 2013. Swinging A Favorite Pasttime. Both boys really like swinging, Cullen especially. We just have a simple swingset but they enjoy it. Today my new Canon 24-70 L f/2.8 II lens came in and WOW is it a beauty so of course I had to try it out. I really think it performed well and I just love these pictures I got of the boys having fun. Monday, January 13, 2014. Here are some before / in progress:. And look how dirty it was! A fresh coat of paint made a HUGE difference right away. Very first progress picture, fresh paint and the beginning of the frame Tony built to start off my vision. Standing up the games was huge, now we could actually get the games/puzzles down if we wanted, but truth be told we could probably get rid of most of them. maybe one day. Posted by Rachel A. Tuesday, July 30, 2013. Road Trip Boredom Bags Trying to be Crafty Mama. So I'm trying something different. I made up these bags, each boy will get to open 1 for every hour we are in the car. Our trip is only 4 hours long so I could easy make up 8 bags with stuff from around the house. Each bag has an activity (or 2) and a treat. First Hour: Tic Tacs, Crayola tongue dyeing taffy, notepad, new box of crayons and stickers. 2nd Hour: Road Trip Bingo, Monsters 'mouth' sucker, and pipe cleaners. Today was the...

Raising Daddy

Learning who I am through life's lessons. I’ve been walking the neighborhood during the late evenings for the last two weeks. It’s been a very centering practice for me, almost makes me feel old. For some reason I’ve always thought that old people do evening walks around the neighborhood. So I guess I have resigned myself to the fact that – I am old. A couple things that have made this a centering practice in no particular order and of course not all these things happen on one walk:. June 5, 2014. How ma...
