The joy of the heart is the life of the soul." Padre Pio. View my complete profile. Roadtrippin Sabbath, Leg 2. Roadtrippin Sabbath, Leg 3. Indian Summer, Take 2. Sunday, December 21, 2008. It started snowing on December 1, quite appropriately, and we have had pretty much solid cold weather since then. I'm not complaining at all, being a huge fan of winter. A thaw here and there reduced our actual inch-age of snow - in fact, it gave us a 1/2 inch ice instead (see below! And there's always a train set up ...

The joy of the heart is the life of the soul." Padre Pio. View my complete profile. Monday, June 15, 2009. There's nothing like a little time in the garden after a long overnight call at the hospital! Actually, I've made a habit of getting out there pretty frequently. Somewhat like studying, 20 minutes here and there does wonders. I wonder if the same thing would work with blogging? I've taken my morning coffee out there to soak in the birds, fresh cool air and early sunlight. Since I am on floors (w...

The joy of the heart is the life of the soul." Padre Pio. View my complete profile. Wednesday, May 6, 2009. The past weekend I spent in California with my grandmother. It was really delightful. Slow paced, a little rainy, but warm. Lots of time to enjoy conversation, many cups of tea and pictures, golf tournements and ballroom dancing. Outside of her window was a wall of roses that filled every sense with color and fragrance as soon as you drove up! May 6, 2009. Friday, May 1, 2009. But two weeks ago I a...

Saturday, May 17, 2008. I made it through exams! On top of making it through the exams I feel really good about how I did on all of them, even FINANCE! On Friday after returning my 50 pounds of classroom books and binders I joined my fellow DISers for our commencement ceremony. It was a nice way to close out the semester with speeches from the DIS director, fellow students and faculty. Jokes were made about how great our Danish must be by now (ha! And how much we will miss the Danish winters (double ha!

Furniture Deals for the Cottage. Aug 13, 2015. It seems I've fallen off the blog train lately. Sorry about that! I've been consumed with organizing BlogPodium. A few projects I can't quite talk about yet, and, well, just enjoying what's left of the summer! Less than a month until school starts again. How can that be? While I haven't been blogging, I have been shopping for the new cottage. It's a great time of year to pick up summer furniture on sale and we have a new porch to fill! Luckily, in an impromp...

Flannel – Done! May 2, 2015. Ugh UGH. The McCall’s 6613 flannel shirt saga is over. Finished! Way back in November. I am just now getting pictures in spring. Ignore the kayak in the bottom of the frame. Don’t judge me. I learned a lot making this shirt, and will apply it to the next one (I haven’t cut it out yet, but I have this lovely black and white cotton check shirting waiting for meeeeee.). To be honest, this is the first time I’ve put on traditional woven cuffs, bands, and a collar on a shirt. ...

That has changed my status from a seasonal blogger to an occasional blogger. Not that there has been any particular occasion to prompt this little pictorial briefing, other than another happy July 4th in central Illinois. And our trusty physician assistant - always-help-in-a-pinch Angela. April and May found us (as ...

A young pastor's thoughts on culture, church, and the future of Christianity. Monday, July 27, 2015. A Heart for the Now. How we see the character of God shapes our sense of what faithfulness to God means and thus what the Christian life is all about." - Marcus Borg. What took me so long to read Marcus Borg? I began with his 2003 book,. The Heart of Christianity: Rediscovering a Life of Faith. As Borg sees it, there are two paradigms of Christianity at work:. Faith - a move from a focus on believing (th...

Random thoughts on missions, discipleship, running and life. Will You Stay Bitter or Get Better? June 29, 2015 6:57 pm. This past week, as most if not everyone here knows, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down a ruling attempting to redefine marriage. It was based on a desire to place the perceptions of a fallen society abov. Some people will be bitter towards God, blaming Him for something painful that happened. Some people will be bitter towards an authority figure such as a boss or a teacher. Bitterness ...

Sunday's Sermon: How to Love. In just three days, I’ll be celebrating my eighth anniversary of being a pastor. But the truth is I haven’t just been a pastor for the last eight years…I’ve been a Baptist pastor. And over all these years, I’ve come to appreciate some of the quirks that make Baptists Baptist.
