Ramblings from A Bird

Ramblings from A Bird. Saturday, April 14, 2012. A Single Excellent Night. While reading one of my most favourite books - Majjhima Nikaya (The Middle Length Discourses of The Buddha), I came across one of my all times favourites verses which I would like to share today:. Let not a person revive the past. Or on the future build his hopes. For the past has been left behind. And the future has not been reached. Instead with insight let him see. Ramblings from A Bird: Purpose of life

http://www.ramblingsfromabird.blogspot.com/2011/04/purpose-of-life.html

Ramblings from A Bird. Sunday, April 24, 2011. One and half decade has passed since that time. If you were to ask me the same question, what is the purpose of life? What's the meaning of life? Why are we being born? Sometimes life is really very very strange. I desired a lot of things, and because of those desire, I became attached with a lot of things. Through this desire, it has brought some suffering in me, especially when I failed to get what I want, or the thing that I love went away. People who ten...

Ramblings from A Bird: Forgiveness

http://www.ramblingsfromabird.blogspot.com/2010/01/forgiveness.html

Ramblings from A Bird. Sunday, January 17, 2010. One of the things that I enjoyed the most about teaching is that I tend to get inspiration myself. The time when I used to prepare the materials, the time that when I sat quietly pondering what to say, and the actual time when I am teaching, at times, I realized that strangely I have learnt things myself. Below is the reflection that I had while preparing today's material:. 4 He can teleport (Superman can only fly, so 4-0 for Maha Mongallana). However, to ...

Ramblings from A Bird. Friday, December 25, 2009. Every beings in this world yearn for happiness. All beings will do all sorts of things to fulfill so that they can be happy, or rather they will do all possible things that they thought will lead to their happiness. In the case of Buddhism, the Buddha puts it beautifully in three words: Gratification, Danger and Release, to describe happiness that we obtained or try to obtain through one of our sixth senses. Wednesday, December 9, 2009. Loving kindness me...

Ramblings from A Bird. Saturday, November 21, 2009. The power of Memes. This is the first blog that I have ever written after many years. To kick start my blogging activity, I would like to share on my reflection on memes. When I was having holiday in Medan one week ago, my cousin, Sophia Liauw, lent me a very interesting book with titled "Tipping Point" by Malcolm Gladwell. Malcolm Gladwell, then discusses three rules of epidemics, causing this to happen:. 1 The law of the few. 2 The stickiness factor.

Ramblings from A Bird: January 2010

http://www.ramblingsfromabird.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Ramblings from A Bird. Thursday, January 28, 2010. I first heard about the story of Upagupta a few years ago during a Dhamma talk by Ajahn Sujato. Somehow there is something magical about this story that it is always in my mind from the first day I heard from Ajahn Sujato until today. The story goes like this. This is a very fascinating story to me. Just as the Buddha is symbol of Deathless, Mara is the symbol of Death (and probably in particular the Death of spirituality). Although the action from outsi...

Monday, April 08, 2013. This is a very short trip to Japan, only 3 days long. This time round I am staying in Moriguchi hotel. The view from the hotel is below. The breakfast dining area is quite nice. This is the season for Sakura. Every morning while going to work, I can see Sakura. After lunch, we walk along rows of Sakura. This is the view from the top. Let's take a closer look below. One of the day, I made an afternoon trip to Kusatsu. There are also lots of sakura there. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

We were given a cottage and it looks like the below picture. The room is quite spacious and has good views of the greenery around. Here is how the interiors of the spa looks like. For di...

Monday, December 30, 2013. I read online there is a futuristic smart home at the Bangsar area of Kuala Lumpur. It is actually a subsidary of the electronics giant Panasonic. I'm very curious on the technology that is being used to design the smart home. Together with my friend, I contacted them a few months before and managed to arrange an on-site visit to them just a day before New Year's Eve. PanaHome builds an entire house using special materials. It's construction process is actually much faster&...

Sunday, April 26, 2015. Sydney [18/04 - 25/04]. This will be my first time visiting to Sydney. It's also the first time visiting to a major Australian city. The last time I visited Australia was back in my secondary school days when we visited the desert and iron ore facilities in Pilbara - Western Australia as part of an educational tour. 19th April 2015 (Sunday). Sunday is the only day where I have the most free time available. After consulting with Lonely Planet Sydney and a few other travel guide...

Vincent's Travel Journal: November 2014

http://vincenttraveljournal.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Sunday, November 30, 2014. My brother passed me a free entry ticket to River Safari that can be used during the month of November only. Using this as an opportunity, AJ and myself plan a visit to the River Safari on the 29th November. We took a taxi from Balestier to Choa Chu Kang as the way is faster and more direct. We arrived in around 20mins and begin our journey to the River Safari. Pass the gates, we were greeted by the river and the equatorial rainforests. As it started to rain, we explored the Am...

Monday, December 08, 2014. Anime Festival Asia [07/12]. It's the time of the year again - the Anime Festival Asia. I recalled coming to AFA for the first time in 2008, and watched how it has grown these 7 years. We have cosplayers around the entrance area as we proceed to buy tickets. I bought the exhibition and stage access pass. There are many more international exhibitors in the AFA now. With continuous live stage entertainment below. And not forgetting domo-kun below. Saturday, March 22, 2014. Johore Property Hunting [22/02 and 22/03]. In our first visit, we missed the exit towards Bukit Indah and we just continue up the expressway towards Johor Premium Outlets. There are many pricy goods on sale here which did not attract our attention. We proceed directly for lunch (Japanese restaurant). As I did not capture any photo of Johor Premium outlets, I reference it to eddy2099.com for the image above). It has very good view of the lake in the district. A walk in wardrobe.

I have been thinking what the real objectives of my blog should be. I would definitely not be comfortable with posting of very personal feelings for the whole world to see.=P Instead this blog would be to share significant events in my life which I hope can just be interesting reads for someone who is surfing the net or provide some useful info for your reference. Enjoy and Cheers! Sunday, February 21, 2010. Reunion of the Primary School Gang (for CNY)! Some by 30 mins! What I said count! After that, we ...

Ramblings of an FAS Dad

Ramblings of an FAS Dad. Monday, February 1, 2010. I told you my next post would be more positive. This is a six week picture of the twins. They are getting ready to bring Heidi, the bigger one, home sometime this week. They have had setbacks but have also seen much improvement and growth in both babies. Giving Thanks to God, may He continue to hold them in His hand. I know, but can't I have just a little trust. Tuesday, January 26, 2010. To All Dads out there. Thursday, January 7, 2010. Little Ramblings

Tuesday, September 17, 2013. As a long time sufferer of Rosacea the struggle to find products for my skin has been ongoing, until now! I think I have finally found something that works. Although there isn't really a 'cure' for rosacea it is nice to find things that don't make me flare up. So covering my red nose is something I like to do when I can. I found juice for her, skin products for me and a business to boot :-). For more info or pop over and like me on facebook. Friday, August 23, 2013. So today ...

Ramblings For The Occupation Of Time

Ramblings For The Occupation Of Time. Thursday, October 16, 2008. Okay, here goes. So, I secured a house for my family to rent over Christmas. It is in Sandbridge, VA, which is about 45 minutes from here. I'm pretty excited about this Christmas. My brother and Steve are supposed to come down and my grandma might make the trip. It is shaping up to be one of the biggest and best holidays of the past 5 or 6 years. Our baby bongo are doing great. My pictures of them made it into the paper. Okay, here goes.
