Thoughts on culture, people, and the ways they connect. Tag Archives: United States. Well, we value independence and being self-sufficient. Why do we often use informal first names instead of titles like Ms., Mrs., and Mr? Check out that strong belief in equality that’s hovering just below the cultural surface. Culture as iceberg is a solid idea, but I prefer culture as tree.” Trunk and branches and leaves visible above ground, with an astoundingly extensive root system underneath. Why? Whether we’re com...

Rambling Thoughts on the Road
Sunday, June 7, 2009. 8217; An old lady in black gown greeted me. It's ’Good morning’ in Greek. ‘Kalimera! We got up early the next morning, and took a guided tour around the city. We started at Panathinaiko Stadium. This is where the 1st modern Summer Olympic Games was held in 1896. The stadium was cleverly carved out of a small hill and was built entirely of white marble. According to the tour guide marble was amble in Greece and worth less than 1/3 of wood (imagine that! At the foothills of Acropolis ...

rambling through life
Wednesday, May 13, 2015. Wednesday, March 27, 2013. I drove past the Provo Tabernacle the other day - it's on its way to becoming the Provo Temple - but it actually looks horrible. just a dark empty shell on a vacant lot surrounded by construction. The fire was a tragedy - a beautiful building gone. But no - it's going to be restored! And even better, it's going to become a beautiful Temple. I'm thankful for the ways that Heavenly Father chooses to teach us about the atonement. Monday, March 25, 2013.

Life, style and parenting. Of Kenwood, Currys, Cakes and Bakes. The new series of The Great British Bake Off. Starts today, so the timing of this post could not be better. I enjoy watching GBBO and I love to eat cake. My baking prowess sadly, extends only to baking the odd banana loaf. I have never put anything in a bain-marie before. And the only soft and stiff peaks I am know of have nothing to do with baking. Links to this post. Nick Baker's Bug Safari by Interplay UK. 8221; or . The child has a high...
